About this role
Data Platform Lead, Data Engineering – Private Markets
Your team
The Private Markets Data Engineering (PMDE) team builds the data and technology capabilities that support the evolution of private-markets investing. The team develops scalable data infrastructure, analytics platforms, and artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities that help connect complex information, improve data access, and support intelligent applications across Preqin and BlackRock.
Role and impact
In this Vice President role, you will be a senior individual contributor, hands-on technical leader, and people manager responsible for building and scaling data infrastructure and analytics capabilities. You will partner with business, product, and engineering stakeholders to translate strategic objectives and user needs into actionable data initiatives. You will also help shape the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled data platforms through semantic data models, knowledge graphs, metadata-driven architectures, and intent-based data access capabilities.
Responsibilities
In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:
* Provide hands-on technical leadership across the Private Markets Data Engineering team, setting architectural direction, overseeing delivery, and maintaining technical coherence across AI-enabled data platform initiatives. * Design and evolve semantic data models, ontologies, governed data products, and knowledge graph capabilities that enable consistent access, entity resolution, relationship intelligence, and multi-hop reasoning. * Build intent-driven data access capabilities that enable assistants, agents, and applications to route requests across structured data, semantic models, graph databases, vector stores, and unstructured content. * Design scalable, reliable data pipelines and analytics platforms, taking accountability for end-to-end technical design, data governance, security, automation, and long-term sustainability. * Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into actionable data initiatives and prioritize solutions based on business impact and alignment with the broader vision. * Communicate complex technical concepts and architectural recommendations clearly to management while fostering collaboration between technical and business teams.
Your experience
* 10+ years of experience in senior technical roles, combining hands-on expertise in Snowflake, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Python with a record of leading complex initiatives and providing technical direction to engineers. * Experience designing semantic data models, business ontologies, governed data products, and metadata-driven architectures, supported by knowledge of data catalogs, lineage, governance, and business glossaries. * Hands-on experience with graph database technologies and modeling patterns, along with vector databases, document retrieval systems, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures. * Experience integrating large language models (LLMs), agents, copilots, or agentic workflows with enterprise data platforms, supported by knowledge of data architecture, cloud platforms such as Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS), and data workflow tooling, including directed acyclic graph-based workflow orchestration frameworks for data and batch processing. * Ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels, communicate effectively, and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. * Ability to balance long-term technical direction with immediate delivery needs in a dynamic environment; experience collaborating across global or multilingual teams is beneficial. * Experience with enterprise-grade container orchestration platforms supporting declarative infrastructure and horizontal scaling and advanced observability practices, together with knowledge of financial services or private capital markets, is beneficial.
