About the role

Job Description

We’re looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team at the Cardiff and the Vale Hospice, providing compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care during day and night shifts.

We are looking for a highly organised, compassionate and detail‑focused individual to join our Wellbeing and Support Hub (WaSH) team. This role plays an administrative and coordination function, ensuring that our wellbeing activities, clinics and workshops run smoothly and that patients, carers and staff receive timely, accurate support.

While this is a Healthcare Assistant post, there is an element of administrative task, information management and service coordination, supporting the wider clinical and allied health professional team through effective systems, communication and organisation.

This is a compassionate and hands-on role where you’ll make a meaningful difference in people’s lives during their final stages, while also supporting their loved ones through grief and bereavement.

Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 2 (aligned with AFC) £26,300 per annum + enhancements (pro rata)

Contract:  Part Time, permanent basis. 15 hours per week, Thursday & Friday 9am-5pm.

Based: Cardiff and the Vale Hospice

What you will be doing:

* Acting as a key point of contact for patients, carers, volunteers and staff * Booking and managing appointments, activities, workshops and clinics * Maintaining accurate electronic and paper records, including: * Inputting patient information and clinical notes into electronic systems * Ensuring data is complete, timely and confidential * Supporting data collection, reporting and basic analysis for the service * Developing and maintaining efficient information systems and processes * Liaising closely with nursing and allied health teams to coordinate care and clinics * Managing incoming correspondence, mail and internal communications * Supporting volunteers by coordinating schedules and activity sessions * Helping ensure a welcoming, well‑organised and supportive environment * Supporting activities and workshops * Communicating clearly and sensitively with patients and those important to them

What we’re looking for:

* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent Level 2 qualification (e.g. NCFE, BTEC), or willingness to work towards it, plus functional skills in numeracy and literacy at Level 2 * At least 6 months of recent care delivery experience in a health or social care setting * Strong communication skills, with the ability to hold person-centred, empathetic conversations and communicate clearly, kindly and professionally * Knowledge of palliative and end of life care, including holistic care planning and symptom management * Ability to plan and prioritise care, respond to changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately * Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team * Strong organisational and administrative skills, with confidence working with systems * Confident using IT systems, databases, Word and Excel * Understands the importance of confidentiality and accuracy * Shares our commitment to person-centred, compassionate care
