Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Sommelier to join the distinguished culinary team at Constance Ephelia, Seychelles. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a luxury resort environment, where you will support our Head Sommelier in delivering exceptional wine and beverage service to our discerning guests. The successful candidate will play a vital role in curating memorable dining experiences through expert wine knowledge, personalised recommendations, and outstanding customer service.
* Assist in the selection, procurement, and management of our wine and beverage inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels and rotation * Provide knowledgeable wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences, food selections, and budget requirements * Execute precise food and wine pairings for our restaurant and private dining events, enhancing the overall guest experience * Maintain detailed records of wine tastings, guest preferences, and sales data using our point of sale system * Support the Head Sommelier in wine training programmes for front-of-house staff, ensuring consistent service standards across all outlets * Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for guests, demonstrating expertise in wine regions, varietals, and production methods * Collaborate with our culinary team to develop seasonal wine lists and special beverage programmes * Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and licensing regulations pertaining to beverage service * Maintain impeccable standards of presentation and professionalism in all guest interactions * Contribute to revenue growth through effective upselling and promotion of premium wine selections
Qualifications
* Proven experience as an Assistant Sommelier, sommelier, or in a similar wine service role within a fine dining or luxury hospitality setting * Comprehensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varietals, production methods, and flavour profiles * Demonstrated expertise in food and wine pairing principles and applications * Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner * Proficiency with point of sale (POS) systems and beverage management software * Strong organisational and inventory management abilities * Exceptional people skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment * Fluency in English; additional language proficiency (French, German, or Mandarin) is highly desirable * Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service * Wine certification such as WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 2 or higher, or Court of Master Sommeliers certification * Experience mentoring junior staff or assisting in sommelier training programmes
