Preferred Education/Experience

* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Criminal Justice, or a related field. * Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and database concepts. * Experience with client/server, web, and mobile applications, including iOS and Android platforms. * Experience testing public safety, law enforcement, records management, CAD, mobile computing, or field reporting software. * Experience working in an Agile software development environment. * Experience using issue tracking, test management, or work management tools such as Jira. * Experience with source control concepts or tools. * Experience with API testing, integration testing, data validation, or test automation is a plus. * Experience with public safety or law enforcement software is a plus; prior SmartCOP software experience is especially helpful.

Desired Job-Specific Competencies and Skills

* Strong curiosity and persistence when investigating software behavior and reproducing reported issues. * Strong customer empathy and an understanding of the importance of reliable software in mission-critical public safety environments. * Ability to think from the perspective of end users, including officers, dispatchers, supervisors, records personnel, and support staff, and apply diagnostic and problem-solving skills to develop logical, documented recommendations with the appropriate teams. * Ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable information for both technical and non-technical audiences. * Ability to balance quality, release timelines, customer impact, and team priorities. * Openness to learning and responsibly applying AI-assisted tools to improve testing efficiency, documentation quality, and team productivity.
