About the role

Chicago (Ravenswood) – After-School Household & Family Assistant

A family in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood is seeking a warm, positive, and dependable Household & Family Assistant to help keep weekday afternoons and evenings running smoothly. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys preparing meals, keeping a home organized, running errands, and supporting two teenagers, ages 14 and 17, with local transportation and homework reminders. The ideal person brings a friendly presence, communicates clearly, and takes pride in planning and completing tasks independently, with minimal ongoing direction.

Responsibilities

* Prepare family dinners, follow recipes, coordinate meal timing with activities, and handle dishes and kitchen cleanup. * Wash, dry, neatly fold, and put away clothes, sheets, and towels; help keep household spaces tidy and organized. * Run grocery, dry-cleaning, and other family errands, and safely drive the teenagers to and from activities, appointments, and other local destinations using the family vehicle. * Plan and prioritize tasks around the family’s schedule, follow through on recurring responsibilities, and take initiative when time permits. * Provide homework reminders and support as needed.

Ideal candidate

* Dependable, punctual, and professional, with a warm, positive demeanor that creates a friendly, welcoming atmosphere at home. * Organized and attentive to detail, able to prioritize household tasks, dinner preparation, errands, and transportation independently, with minimal ongoing direction. * Strong spoken and written English communication skills; asks questions when instructions are unclear, promptly flags delays or obstacles, and is receptive to feedback. * Comfortable working with teenagers, building respectful relationships, and maintaining appropriate boundaries. * A safe, confident driver in Chicago and winter conditions, with a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. * Able to provide verifiable employment references, maintain a consistent weekday schedule, and interested in a long-term relationship with the family over multiple school years.

Schedule

* Monday–Friday, starting at 3:30 PM. * End time varies between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM depending on the family’s schedule. * Approximately 15 hours per week on average, with occasional later evenings. * Start date: As soon as the hiring and on-boarding process is complete. * This is a school-year position. Work for the current school year runs through June 18, 2027, with no work scheduled during the summer break. The family would welcome someone who can return at the start of the 2027–2028 school year and continue for multiple years.

A family vehicle will be provided for transporting the teenagers and completing family errands.

Please submit a resume and review the job description before interviewing. Candidates are encouraged to prepare questions about the role and the family’s expectations.
