About the role

Job Description

As an Apprentice Engineer at SWARCO, you'll have the opportunity to develop your engineering skills whilst working alongside experienced Engineers across our Urban portfolio, including traffic signals, signs and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) equipment.

You'll gain hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, testing and fault-finding of roadside technology, supporting the systems that help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.

As part of your apprenticeship, you'll combine practical on-the-job training with structured learning, working towards a recognised engineering qualification.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

* Supporting Engineers with planned and reactive maintenance activities.

* Learning how to inspect, maintain, test and repair traffic signals, signs and associated ITS equipment.

* Assisting with fault-finding and identifying technical issues under supervision.

* Developing an understanding of electrical and electronic engineering principles.

* Working safely on highways and customer sites, following Health & Safety procedures.

* Learning to use engineering tools, equipment and technical systems correctly.

* Completing worksheets, training records and apprenticeship assessments.

* Working with experienced colleagues to develop your practical skills and technical knowledge.

You'll be supported throughout your apprenticeship, gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills, confidence and competence develop.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic about engineering, enjoys practical problem-solving and is keen to learn new skills.

You'll need:

* GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications, at the level required for the apprenticeship programme.

* An interest in electrical/electronic engineering, technology or how things work.

* A willingness to learn and complete the required apprenticeship training and assessments.

* A practical approach to problem-solving and good attention to detail.

* Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

* A positive attitude towards Health & Safety and following instructions.

* Reliability, enthusiasm and a willingness to develop new skills.

* Willingness to travel to different work locations and work outdoors as required.

Previous engineering experience isn't necessary, although any practical experience, technical studies or interest in electrical/electronic systems would be an advantage.
