CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION - GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION UNIT

(Boston or Regional Office)

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks a highly motivated individual to join her Office’s Gun Violence Prevention Unit (GVPU) as a Paralegal to assist in the investigation and litigation of enforcement cases. This innovative Unit, which sits within the Consumer Protection Division, works to reduce gun violence in Massachusetts through enforcement, industry accountability, consumer protection, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with government, industry, and community stakeholders.

Primary Duties: The Paralegal will work closely with the GVPU Director and Unit attorneys, and with investigators, interview witnesses, review documents, compile evidence, and assist attorneys with all aspects of case responsibilities, which may include fact gathering, trial preparation, translation, data analysis, attending depositions, organizing and maintaining files, reviewing exhibits, and helping to monitor or administer settlements and post-judgment relief. The Paralegal will also support the Unit’s investigations into industry, corporate, and individual conduct; assist with multistate and coordinated matters with other Attorneys General; and help advance the Unit’s legislative, regulatory, policy, and public education initiatives, including by assisting with public comments and regulatory filings, tracking rulemaking dockets, and coordinating stakeholder engagement.

Position Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience required. * Demonstrated interest in the Unit’s public safety mission and an ability to master new legal, factual, and regulatory subject matter. * Effective research, data analysis, and advocacy skills. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under a tight schedule. * Ability to learn new information quickly and grasp complex concepts. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel. * Commitment to working in the public interest. * Experience supporting document- and data-intensive investigations, including large electronic document productions and matters involving multiple witnesses or parties, is helpful. * Familiarity with Westlaw and LexisNexis is helpful.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt. Our hybrid model includes some telework days for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.

Location: This position may be based in the Boston Office, Springfield Regional Office, Worcester Regional Office, or New Bedford Regional Office. Office location will be determined based on the candidate’s expressed preference and space availability. Travel to the Boston Office may be required.
