About the role

Genset Mechanical Integration Engineer Company: LiquidPiston Location: Suffield, CT Employment Type: Full-Time | Onsite, 5 Days per Week

About LiquidPiston At LiquidPiston, we're rethinking what's possible with engine technology. We're developing innovative rotary engines and compact power systems designed to deliver more power in smaller, lighter, and more efficient packages. Our technology has the potential to transform applications across power generation, aerospace, defense, and other industries where size, weight, and performance matter. We're not a traditional engineering company. We're a hands-on team of engineers, designers, and problem-solvers who move quickly, challenge conventional thinking, and turn ideas into working hardware. Our engineers don't just design components on a computer. They're involved in building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving the technology they develop. If you enjoy solving challenging engineering problems, taking ownership of your designs, and seeing your work come to life, LiquidPiston could be a great fit. About the Role LiquidPiston is looking for a Genset Mechanical Integration Engineer to support the development of our next-generation engine-driven generator systems. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing and integrating mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical components into compact, reliable, and manufacturable genset assemblies. You'll work closely with our Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Testing teams to develop innovative packaging solutions for power electronics, control units, sensors, batteries, wiring, connectors, and generator hardware. This is a highly hands-on engineering opportunity. You'll be involved in everything from early-stage system layouts and detailed CAD design to prototype assembly, troubleshooting, and testing. We're looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of making complex systems fit together, understands how designs translate into physical hardware, and can balance performance, manufacturability, durability, and cost. Key Responsibilities * Develop and evaluate innovative mechanical designs to improve the packaging, durability, manufacturability, and weight of LiquidPiston's rotary engine-based gensets. * Design mounting structures, enclosures, brackets, and mechanical interfaces for electrical and electromechanical components, including power electronics, controllers, batteries, sensors, wiring, and generator hardware. * Create detailed 3D part and assembly models using SolidWorks, including production-ready engineering drawings. * Support Sr. integration engineers manage BOM’s as designs move from concept thru design, production, testing, and revision. * Support early-stage genset architecture and system layout development, ensuring efficient integration of mechanical and electrical subsystems. * Work closely with Electrical and Controls Engineering teams to package electrical systems into compact, functional, and serviceable assemblies. * Develop packaging solutions that account for space constraints, thermal management, vibration, accessibility, manufacturability, and environmental requirements. * Perform component- and system-level engineering analysis using hand calculations, simulation tools, and experimental data. * Support hands-on prototype builds, assembly, integration, and troubleshooting, working directly with engineers and technicians. * Participate in genset testing, evaluate results, and incorporate lessons learned into design improvements. * Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers, and machine shops to develop practical, cost-effective solutions. * Participate in design reviews, identify potential design risks, and contribute to continuous product improvements. * Communicate technical ideas, design decisions, and test results clearly to engineering teams and company leadership.

Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. * 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or electromechanical system integration. * Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex assemblies, detailed part modeling (sheet metal design experience a plus), and engineering drawings. * Experience designing mechanical components, mounting structures, enclosures, or integrated assemblies. * Understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 preferred), engineering tolerances, material selection, and manufacturing processes. * Experience integrating mechanical and electrical components into complete systems or products. * Ability to perform engineering calculations and evaluate designs for structural integrity, vibration, thermal considerations, and manufacturability. * Experience supporting prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design iterations. * Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines. * Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment where designs evolve and engineers take ownership of their work

Benefits & Perks: * PTO: We value work–life balance and encourage time to rest and recharge.  * Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical and voluntary dental, and vision coverage - you choose what works best for you. * Equity Participation: Employes may receive RSUs (Restricted Stock Units). * 401(k) Match: We offer a 401k w/100% matching up to 3% of your salary and then 50% of contributions between 3-5% after 1 year of employment.  * Career Growth: Ongoing training, mentorship, and learning opportunities to accelerate your growth.

Our Culture: At LiquidPiston, we embrace challenges, move fast, and celebrate curiosity. Our team thrives on collaboration, creativity, and perseverance.
