About the role

🌟 Ready to take your engineering career to new heights? 🚀

We're seeking a talented Structural Project Engineer with 3-6 years of experience who's passionate about innovative, sustainable design. If you're excited about working at the cutting edge of mass timber, sustainable construction, and seismic resilience in the Pacific Northwest, keep reading!

Who We Are We're Holmes US - a structural engineering firm that's anything but boring! With a growing Portland office and roots in New Zealand, we're right at home in a city that's leading the world on sustainable construction and mass timber innovation. We take on projects that make other firms ask, "Wait, how did they do that?" - and in Portland, that question comes up a lot.

Your Impact:

* Design innovative building structures across multiple materials, with strong exposure to mass timber and CLT in the region that's defining how the world builds with wood * Apply your expertise in concrete, steel, masonry, and wood on projects ranging from mid-rise residential to civic and commercial * Collaborate with dynamic project teams across our US and New Zealand network * Contribute to sustainable and resilient design solutions in a city that takes both extremely seriously

You'll Be A Great Fit If You Have:

* 3-6 years of structural engineering experience * B.S. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering * PE license * Seismic design experience (Cascadia Subduction Zone context is a plus) * Strong technical and communication skills * Proficiency in ETABS, SAP, RISA * A collaborative spirit and problem-solving mindset

Why You'll Love It Here

🌟 Engineering That Matters - Work on Portland's most forward-thinking structural projects - mass timber, sustainable urban development, seismic resilience, and civic infrastructure. Learn from industry leaders across the US and New Zealand and help define what the next generation of Pacific Northwest construction looks like.

💪 Growth & Development - Clear career progression, mentorship in both directions, regular technical training, and full support for professional licensing.

🎯 The Perks That Count - Flexible hybrid work, comprehensive benefits (including pet insurance - trail dogs welcome), genuine work-life balance, and a team that debates glulam connection details with the same enthusiasm they bring to planning the next team ride.

Benefits Offered:

Depending on your employment status, benefits may include:

* Hybrid work model (3 days in office) * Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, Short-term and Long-term Disability and other voluntary plans * Flexible Spending Accounts for Medical & Childcare * Health Savings Account * Pet Insurance * Employee Assistance Program * Paid Time off - Vacation, Sick, Personal Leave, Family Leave for new parents, and Community Service time * Paid Holidays * Pre-Tax Commuter Transit * 401(k) retirement savings with Company contribution * Company sponsored events * Diversity / Inclusion programs and initiatives

Our Commitment At Holmes, we believe in building teams as diverse as the communities we serve. We provide equal support and opportunities for all our people to thrive, grow, and develop. Dream big - we'll help you get there!

Ready to join a team that believes in pushing boundaries and having fun while doing it? Apply now at www.holmes.us/careers and let's create something amazing together! 🏗️

P.S. - We promise you'll never run out of exciting projects, great coffee, or people who get just as excited about structural engineering as you do! 🤓
