Frontend Developer Job Description (2026): Duties, Skills and Salary
A frontend developer builds the part of a web product people see and use: pages, components, forms and interactions in the browser. They turn designs into accessible, responsive interfaces in HTML, CSS and JavaScript or TypeScript, usually with a framework such as React, Vue or Angular, and connect them to backend APIs.
Good frontend work is measured by users, not by how closely it matches a mockup: pages load fast on slow phones, work with a keyboard and a screen reader, and behave the same across browsers. Frontend developers work daily with product designers and backend developers, and often look after the design system or component library.

Frontend Developer job description FAQ
What does a frontend developer do?
Turns designs into working interfaces in the browser: building components and pages, connecting them to APIs, and making sure they're fast, accessible and usable on every screen size. They work closely with designers and backend developers.
Is a frontend developer the same as a web designer?
No. A web designer decides how a page looks and works, usually in a tool such as Figma; a frontend developer writes the code that makes it real. Some people do both, but developer job ads expect production code, tests and framework experience.
Should a frontend job description ask for React specifically?
Only if your codebase uses it. Developers move between React, Vue and Angular fairly easily, so asking for 'a modern framework, ideally React' widens the pool without lowering the bar.
