About D.C. Goodman & Sons

D.C. Goodman & Sons is a full-service commercial mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and sprinkler systems for commercial and institutional clients. We’re a hands-on, high-standard team — and we’re building something worth being a part of.

Our Culture Is Key For Our Growth

At D.C. Goodman & Sons, great work starts with great people. We take pride in our craft, hold ourselves accountable, and treat every client, contractor, and teammate with respect. As we grow, we create opportunities for our people to develop their skills, take on new responsibilities, and build lasting careers. We believe when our people succeed, the company succeeds. If you take pride in your work and want to be part of a team raising the bar in commercial mechanical contracting, you belong here.

Here’s Where You Come In

You’ve come up through the trades, know commercial mechanical systems firsthand, and you’re ready to build — not just manage. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape a service division from scratch. You’ll run service calls early while the foundation is built, transitioning into a more traditional management role as the team matures.

What You Should Know

No formal preventive maintenance program currently exists — creating one is a core part of this job. You’ll consolidate service responsibilities currently spread across multiple department heads into one unified operation. We’re looking for someone who sees that as an opportunity, not an obstacle.

Overall Purpose

The Service Manager owns the service side of the business end to end — building the department, developing a PM program from scratch, and managing operations, client relationships, and financials as the program grows.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Department Build-Out

* Consolidate service responsibilities into a unified department with consistent processes, scheduling, and staffing * Develop a PM program from the ground up — schedules, service agreements, documentation, and pricing * Partner with estimators to identify new PM and service contract opportunities

Operations & Technical Leadership

* Manage day-to-day scheduling, dispatch, and prioritization of PM visits, service calls, and emergency response * Personally perform service, diagnostics, and repairs in the early stages; review technician diagnostics on complex commercial equipment — rooftop units, boilers, chillers, VAV/VRF systems, backflow prevention, sewer pumps, and grinders * Establish on-call rotation for after-hours coverage and coordinate with other department leads on multi-trade jobs

Team & Client Management

* Hire, supervise, mentor, and develop HVAC/Plumbing Technicians as the department grows * Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring response times, quality, and communication meet expectations * Build and maintain service agreements and identify opportunities to expand scope with existing clients

Financial Oversight

* Own department financials — labor allocation, job costing, invoicing, and profitability * Track and report key service metrics including response time, first-time fix rate, and technician utilization

Desired Skills & Experience

* 7–10+ years of hands-on commercial HVAC and/or plumbing experience including lead, foreman, or supervisory experience; comfortable performing hands-on technical work in a build-out environment * Strong knowledge of commercial mechanical systems, blueprints, and specs * OSHA 30 and EPA 608 Certification required (or willingness to obtain within 6 months); valid driver’s license required * Prior experience building a service line, PM program, or department from scratch a plus * Experience with dispatch/scheduling software, job costing, and service contract management a plus * Backflow prevention certification, NATE Certification, and multi-trade coordination experience a plus

The Full Package

* Health insurance (medical, dental, vision) * 401k retirement plan * Paid holidays and PTO * Paid training and professional growth potential
