About the role

At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner—and every person here makes that happen. You’ll be empowered to lead, supported to grow, and proud of the impact we create together. Join us and help run what runs the world.

This position reports to:

R&D Global Unit Lead

__

Your role and responsibilities

Are you passionate about bringing structure, control and traceability to complex software products? Join our Malmö R&D team as a Senior Configuration Manager and help shape how we manage software configurations throughout the product lifecycle from ongoing development to release and long-term maintenance.

Our teams develop control functionality for ABB System 800xA and next-generation automation products used in industrial applications, including the energy services industry. These products evolve over many years, with development taking place across parallel branches and multiple product releases. You will work closely with local developers and be part of ABB’s global Configuration Management (CM) team, contributing to the delivery of the complete automation system.

In this role, you will take ownership of clear, consistent CM practices. You will help ensure we can identify what is included in every release, understand and trace changes, reproduce delivered configurations and maintain our products with confidence. DevOps tools and automation are important enablers of this work, but configuration management is the core of the position.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

* Define, maintain and continuously improve CM plans, principles and working methods, including version control, branching and release management. * Establish and maintain configuration identification, baselines and release records so software configurations and delivered versions are clearly defined, traceable and reproducible. * Coordinate and support change control, ensuring changes are assessed, documented and introduced according to agreed procedures and release policies. * Support release planning, configuration reviews and follow-up of CM status, working with developers and other stakeholders to maintain quality across product versions. * Guide and coach colleagues in CM practices, promote common ways of working and help strengthen CM capabilities within the local team and ABB’s global CM community. * Develop and improve the tools, build processes and CI/CD pipelines that support reliable integration, configuration control and software releases. * Automate repetitive configuration, build and release tasks, and maintain relevant process documentation.

You will collaborate with software developers, technical leads and CM/DevOps colleagues across ABB. The role combines independent ownership of CM topics with practical teamwork and continuous improvement.

Qualifications for the role

We are looking for someone who enjoys creating structure in complex technical environments and can turn configuration management principles into effective everyday practices.

* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. * Several years of experience in software configuration management, including configuration identification, change control, baselines and release management. * Good understanding of Git-based version control, branching strategies and the management of software across parallel development and product releases. * Experience working with development teams and using or improving CI/CD and build processes, for example with Azure DevOps. * A structured and analytical approach, good communication skills and the ability to coordinate, explain and improve practices across teams.

In addition, it is advantageous if you have experience with:

* Scripting, automation and development tooling (e.g., Python, Bash), plus containerization, cloud or infrastructure as code (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Azure). * Industrial automation, long-lifecycle products, large-scale distributed systems or safety-critical development (for example IEC 61508).
