Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION The Media and Marketing Writer Intern contributes to ONC’s mission by creating clear, engaging short-form content across the Media and Marketing Department. This intern supports Care to Converse writers, Thursday Terminology writers, podcast description writers, and other department-wide content needs. The role focuses on turning research, discussions, and ideas into concise writing that captures attention without losing accuracy or substance. The intern will work with writers, podcast producers, designers, and department leadership to ensure content reflects ONC’s voice and nonpartisan mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES • Write and revise short-form content for projects across the Media and Marketing Department. • Support Care to Converse content with concise copy, summaries, prompts, and promotional material. • Help develop Thursday Terminology posts that explain civic, political, and policy terms in accessible language. • Write and edit podcast episode descriptions, titles, summaries, and promotional copy for publishing platforms. • Adapt ideas and longer source material into short, engaging captions, scripts, blurbs, and audience-facing copy. • Proofread for clarity, grammar, tone, factual accuracy, and consistency with ONC’s mission. • Collaborate with team members, incorporate feedback, and meet agreed-upon deadlines.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS • Strong writing and editing skills, especially short-form writing. • Ability to summarize complex or lengthy information clearly while keeping it engaging. • Good judgment about tone, audience, accuracy, and nonpartisan communication. • Interest in media, marketing, civic engagement, public policy, or educational content. • Dependable communication and ability to work independently in a remote team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Remote collaboration primarily through Zoom, Slack, and Google Workspace. The intern must commit through the end of the current semester. An extension may be available based on performance and organizational needs.

COMPENSATION This is an unpaid internship position.

BENEFITS Flexible schedule, college credit where approved by the applicant’s institution, professional networking, and resume-building experience. Portfolio development may be possible with ONC approval
