Patient Referral Specialist – Outpatient Therapy Clinic

Independence, IA | Full-Time

Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (flexible) | In-Office

Pay: $17–$20/hr (based on experience)

A therapist-owned outpatient clinic in Independence, Iowa is hiring a full-time Referral Specialist. You’ll be the first point of contact for new patients: taking in referrals, verifying insurance, getting authorizations in place and scheduling patients with our physical, occupational and speech therapists.

An ideal candidate has experience as a medical receptionist, patient coordinator or front desk in a medical, dental or therapy office. If you’re the person who keeps a busy office running — and you like knowing patients get care without delays — this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Referrals & Insurance

* Process new patient referrals and schedule patients promptly with the right therapist * Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations when required * Give new patients the correct paperwork and walk them through what’s needed before their first visit * Audit and track patient files so records are complete before closing

Front Office

* Answer phones and respond promptly to patients, therapists and vendors * Check patients in and out, collect copays and manage therapist schedules * Keep the clinic HIPAA-compliant and welcoming

Office Support

* Order supplies and keep office equipment maintained * Handle mail and mailings, such as birthday and recruitment cards * Copying, typing and other admin support as needed

What We’re Looking For

Required

* High school diploma or equivalent * 1–2 years of office or administrative experience * Comfortable with email, Word, Excel and learning new software * Detail-oriented, organized, and friendly on the phone and in person * Handles high volume and interruptions, and prioritizes without close supervision

Preferred

* Medical, dental or therapy office experience * Insurance verification or prior authorization experience

Benefits

* Medical, dental and vision insurance * 401(k) * PTO and personal days * Continuing education * Weekday daytime hours with flexibility — no nights or weekends * Therapist-owned and therapist-managed — leaders who understand patient care * Local clinic team supported by our home office

Compensation: $17 - $20/hour, DOE
