About the role
At Covenant Case Management Services (CCMS), our mission is to serve our community through education, advocacy, and partnership to fuel purpose-filled futures. Founded on the belief that everyone deserves a safe, joyful place to thrive, we provide holistic, compassionate, whole-person care to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to overcome limitations and realize their dreams. We consider those we serve an extension of our family and our independent contractors an essential part of our team.
We are seeking a patient, grounded, and experienced Direct Support Professional (1099 Independent Contractor) to provide full-time, one-on-one support for an individual in Charlotte, NC (Zip Code: 28277).
The member is more reserved and thrives with routine, quiet comfort, and dedicated personal space. He loves spending time at home listening to music, watching YouTube and favorite videos, jumping on the trampoline, and spending relaxing time outdoors. Because he values his alone time, he does best with a calm, perceptive caregiver who understands how to respect boundaries while keeping him engaged and supported. The member does have behavioral support needs and can occasionally display physical aggression (infrequent/not daily), which is why prior experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and behavior support is required. You will also work in close, daily partnership with a loving, deeply involved parent who is dedicated to his growth and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
* Home-Based Day Support (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM): Provide patient, low-stimulus 1:1 support in the home. Facilitate his daily routines, assist with meals, encourage healthy living habits, and support his favorite activities—such as listening to music, outdoor time, and trampoline breaks—while respecting his need for downtime.
* Low-Pressure Community Networking (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Accompany and support him during gentle, well-paced community outings, nature walks, and sensory-friendly recreational activities that build confidence without causing sensory overload.
* Proactive Behavioral Support & De-Escalation: Maintain a steady, calm presence. Recognize early signs of overstimulation, allow personal space, and implement gentle, consistent behavioral redirection during occasional challenging or aggressive behaviors.
* Close Family Partnership: Maintain transparent, respectful, and daily communication with his highly involved parent to ensure absolute consistency in routines, preferences, and care plans.
* Safety & Daily Documentation: Prioritize a secure, predictable environment at all times and log accurate, timely notes detailing daily goals, mood, and progress.
Work Schedule & Hours
This position offers a consistent, full-time daytime schedule (40 hours per week):
* Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM * Day Support: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM (Monday – Friday) * Community Networking: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM (Monday – Friday)

* Compensation: $18.00 / hour (Day Support) | $18.00 / hour (Community Networking)
* Location: Charlotte, NC (Ballantyne / 28277 area)

What We Are Looking For | Qualifications

* Behavior Management (Preferred): Prior experience managing behavioral triggers and practicing calm, non-confrontational physical de-escalation techniques.
* Temperament & Personality: Grounded, calm, perceptive, and patient. Able to give space, avoid rushing, and meet a reserved individual where he is at.
* Family Collaboration: High emotional intelligence, dependability, and enthusiasm for partnering directly with an involved, loving family.
* Contractor Status: Comfort operating as an independent contractor under a 1099 agreement.
* Education & Credentials: High school diploma or GED equivalent (Required).
