About the role

At AKS, we are growing and building for the future. We bring together multidisciplined experts across the land development, energy, and infrastructure markets to take on bigger challenges and deliver solutions that make a real difference. Our teams combine creativity, technical excellence, and a collaborative, hands-on approach to solve complex problems and deliver results our clients and communities can count on. We take pride in our work and our ability to provide opportunities for our teams, support each other’s growth, and look ahead to what’s next. When you join AKS, you will find opportunities to take ownership of meaningful projects, learn, lead, and make an impact from day one.

The Materials Tester plays a hands-on role in ensuring the quality, safety, and long-term performance of construction projects across the region. This position supports AKS’ growing materials testing and special inspection services, working directly in the field and laboratory to test construction materials, document results, and help projects stay compliant with applicable standards and codes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys field work, problem-solving, and seeing projects come together, from early site prep through final construction, while being part of a collaborative, growing team.

What You’ll Do

* Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials, including soil, aggregate, fill, asphalt, and concrete to verify compaction, strength, and performance.  * Conduct nuclear density testing, collect concrete samples, and support compressive strength and laboratory testing in accordance with applicable standards.  * Perform special inspections per applicable building codes, including observations of reinforcing steel, concrete placement, masonry, earthwork, grading, and site preparation.  * Support or perform structural, specialty, and non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, such as Certified Welding Inspections (CWI), high-strength bolting, epoxy and adhesive anchor inspections, and visual, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant testing (based on qualifications).  * Accurately document test results, inspection observations, and field data, and communicate findings clearly with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.  * Represent AKS professionally in the field and support in-house testing and inspection services, helping streamline coordination and project schedules.

Who You Are

* Experience or interest in construction materials testing, inspection, or field engineering.  * Comfortable working outdoors and on active construction sites in varying conditions.  * Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document field observations and test results.  * Ability to follow established procedures, standards, and safety requirements.  * Clear communicator who can work effectively with contractors, engineers, inspectors, and internal teams.  * Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple tasks or sites.  * Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to project sites.
