Job Description

SOCOTEC is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) to serve as Project Manager for Special Inspections, overseeing IBC Chapter 17 special inspection projects out of our Mechanicsburg, PA or Philadelphia, PA office. This role goes beyond scheduling and administration: the successful candidate will perform plan and specification review, technically oversee field special inspection staff, coordinate directly with on-site Construction Managers and project designers, and represent SOCOTEC at project meetings and industry events.

Responsibilities:

* Manage, coordinate, and administer special inspection projects of varying scope and budget in accordance with IBC Chapter 17, the Pennsylvania Building Code, and (for Philadelphia projects) City of Philadelphia L&I requirements. * Review project plans and specifications to determine and confirm the required scope of special inspections, including development/review of the Statement of Special Inspections. * Technically oversee and support special inspection field staff (structural steel/bolting, welding, concrete, NDT, etc.); manage dispatch and inspection scheduling. * Manage inspection budgets and schedules; monitor project progress against scope. * Coordinate directly with on-site Construction Managers, architects, and engineers of record to resolve field issues and confirm inspection requirements. * Review field inspection reports for code compliance and technical accuracy; ensure all required inspections are completed and properly documented. * Maintain a log of work in-progress and incomplete work. * Attend field and project meetings as necessary; represent SOCOTEC/AEG at client meetings and industry events. * Work with the team to invoice projects monthly. * Advise Director if Change Orders are required. * Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

* Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required (Pennsylvania licensure, or ability to obtain PA licensure/reciprocity, required). * Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline required. * Significant experience in special inspections, with demonstrated proficiency in plan and specification review. * Strong working knowledge of IBC Chapter 17 and the Pennsylvania Building Code; familiarity with Philadelphia L&I special inspection requirements a plus. * Prior experience overseeing or supervising special inspection field staff. * Proven ability to coordinate effectively with Construction Managers, architects, and engineers of record on active job sites. * Comfortable representing the firm at project meetings, client meetings, and industry events. * ICC, AWS, and/or NDT certifications a plus. * Must be organized, self-motivated, and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Must be able to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously. * Reliable means of transportation; ability to travel to job sites and between offices as needed. * Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the U.S. required.
