About the role

Position Overview

Help students succeed, guide families toward the right support, and build meaningful connections in the community.

We are seeking an academically strong, relationship-focused professional who can tutor students, coordinate tutoring services, meet with prospective families, and represent College Tutors and Pathfinders at community marketing events.

This role combines education, consultative sales, and community outreach. The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with students and is equally comfortable leading a family consultation, recommending services, and starting conversations at a school or community event.

College Tutors and Pathfinders College & Career Advisors help students strengthen academic skills, confidence, and learning habits. Pathfinders helps families approach education decisions through its “Career First. College Second.” philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

Provide personalized tutoring

* Tutor students individually in subjects aligned with your demonstrated academic expertise.

* Assess learning needs, identify skill gaps, and establish measurable goals.

* Adapt instruction to each student’s learning style, readiness, and pace.

* Help students develop organization, study habits, time management, and independent problem-solving skills.

* Provide ACT/SAT preparation when qualified.

* Document sessions and communicate progress, challenges, and next steps to families.

* Maintain academic integrity and help students learn to complete their own work.

Lead family consultations and support enrollment

* Respond promptly to inquiries and schedule introductory meetings with prospective families.

* Meet with parents and students to understand academic concerns, goals, prior tutoring experiences, and scheduling needs.

* Explain College Tutors services and recommend an appropriate tutoring plan.

* Address questions about services, pricing, expectations, and the value of ongoing support.

* Ask families to take the next step toward enrollment and guide them through the process.

* Follow up consistently with families who have not yet enrolled.

* Recognize when a family may benefit from Pathfinders and coordinate an introduction to the advising team.

* Make recommendations that reflect the family’s needs and set realistic expectations.

Represent both brands at marketing and community events

* Attend school events, college and career fairs, chamber gatherings, parent programs, community festivals, and other relevant outreach opportunities.

* Represent College Tutors and Pathfinders professionally and explain the distinct services each provides.

* Engage parents, students, educators, and community partners in conversations about their needs.

* Identify opportunities to connect families with tutoring or college and career advising.

* Prepare event materials, coordinate booth setup, and manage event supplies.

* Collect prospective family information with permission, document conversations, and complete timely follow-up.

* Schedule family consultations and introductions resulting from events.

* Build relationships with schools, counselors, parent organizations, businesses, and potential referral partners.

* Track event contacts, appointments, enrollments, and referral opportunities to help evaluate outreach effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

* College coursework demonstrating strong academic preparation in the subjects you will tutor.

* Experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, or providing comparable student support.

* Ability to explain challenging concepts clearly and patiently.

* Strong interpersonal skills and confidence speaking with parents, students, and community partners.

* Comfort recommending services, discussing pricing, asking for enrollment, and following up with prospective families.

* Strong organization, written communication, and follow-through.

* Ability to manage appointments, student records, and multiple priorities.

* Comfort using scheduling platforms, customer relationship management systems, and online learning tools.

* Availability for after-school tutoring and occasional evening or weekend consultations and events.

* Ability to travel to assigned tutoring locations and community events.

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, science, business, communications, or a related field.

* Demonstrated ability to tutor middle school and high school mathematics or science.

* Experience with ACT/SAT preparation, including familiarity with current test formats.

* Experience in family enrollment, consultative sales, customer service, or community outreach.

* Experience coordinating tutors, instructors, schedules, or educational programs.

* Training or experience supporting students with learning differences.

* Experience building relationships with schools and community organizations.

Academic Information Requested During Hiring

Candidates should be prepared to discuss:

* Degree earned or in progress, major, and relevant academic experience.

* College math and science courses completed and grades earned.

* Overall GPA and relevant subject-area performance.

* Subjects and grade levels they can confidently tutor independently.

* ACT/SAT test dates, versions, and composite and section scores, if available.

* Experience teaching reading, writing, study skills, and test preparation.

* Examples of student progress or instructional approaches they have used.

Candidates may be asked to complete a short subject assessment, teaching demonstration, and simulated family consultation. Relevant academic qualifications may be verified during hiring.

What Success Looks Like

* Students receive accurate, engaging instruction and make measurable progress toward their goals.

* Families understand the recommended services and feel confident enrolling.

* Prospective families receive prompt, consistent follow-up.

* Tutoring schedules, records, and communications remain organized.

* Community events generate qualified inquiries, appointments, enrollments, and referral relationships.

* College Tutors and Pathfinders are represented with professionalism, warmth, and clear communication.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

You enjoy helping a student reach an “I understand it now” moment. You listen carefully to parents, explain recommendations with confidence, and follow through on commitments. You are comfortable initiating conversations, asking for business, and building relationships that help more families find the educational support they need.
