About the role

About the Role

Bushburg is seeking a hands-on Interior Designer and Decorator to work closely with ownership on design and decorating projects. This person will develop design recommendations, translate ownership’s vision and approved decisions into clear instructions for architects and contractors, and follow each detail through construction, furnishing, and final installation.

The ideal candidate combines strong design judgment with practical execution. They should be comfortable presenting options for ownership’s approval, taking direction, visiting active construction sites, and independently managing smaller projects within approved scope and budgets.

Requirements

Responsibilities

* Work closely with ownership to understand the intended look and function of each space, recommend options, secure approvals, and carry out approved design decisions.

* Communicate design direction to architects, contractors, and vendors using reference images, selections, marked-up drawings, and written instructions.

* Review plans, elevations, finish schedules, samples, and shop drawings for consistency with approved design intent; flag discrepancies for resolution.

* Walk construction sites to review finish quality, placement, dimensions, and workmanship. Document issues with photos and track corrections through completion.

* Manage smaller interior design and decorating projects, including measurements, layouts, material selections, budgets, schedules, and installation.

* Source furniture, rugs, art, lighting, window treatments, and accessories; present options with pricing and lead times.

* Coordinate purchasing, deliveries, installers, substitutions, damaged items, and returns within approved budgets.

* Walk completed spaces, identify finishing needs, and oversee furniture placement, styling, and final punch-list items.

* Maintain organized records of approvals, specifications, orders, budgets, and open items; communicate progress and decisions needed.

Qualifications

* Demonstrated experience in interior design and decorating, with a portfolio of completed work and a clear explanation of your personal contribution.

* Strong judgment in scale, proportion, color, materials, furniture placement, and styling.

* Experience coordinating with architects, contractors, and vendors, including site visits and follow-through on finish deficiencies.

* Ability to read floor plans, elevations, and finish schedules and prepare clear layouts, presentations, and selection documentation.

* Strong organization and communication skills, with experience managing purchases, budgets, and competing deadlines.

* Ability to work collaboratively with ownership, offer thoughtful recommendations, adapt to feedback, and follow through on final decisions.

* Ability to travel regularly between NYC project sites, showrooms, and vendor locations.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and portfolio, highlighting two or three completed projects, your specific responsibilities, and examples of both design coordination and final decorating.
