About the role

DVM Focus is representing a full-time Medical Director Veterinarian opportunity with an established companion-animal practice in the greater Austin area of Texas.

This position is designed for an experienced veterinarian who wants to remain active in clinical medicine while taking a meaningful leadership role within the practice. The Medical Director will help guide clinical standards, support and mentor the veterinary team, contribute to practice growth, and work collaboratively with hospital leadership while maintaining medical autonomy.

For a veterinarian interested in taking the next step beyond clinical leadership, this opportunity also offers the potential for equity ownership and partnership.

The Role

The Medical Director will balance clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, helping foster a collaborative environment focused on quality medicine, strong communication, and continued professional growth.

Responsibilities may include:

* Providing high-quality medical and surgical care * Helping establish and maintain strong clinical standards * Supporting, coaching, and mentoring veterinary team members * Encouraging collaboration and effective communication throughout the hospital * Participating in decisions affecting clinical operations and practice growth * Helping identify opportunities to improve patient care, workflow, and the client experience * Supporting veterinarian recruitment, onboarding, and retention as appropriate * Remaining actively involved in day-to-day clinical medicine

The Practice

The practice provides comprehensive companion-animal care and supports veterinarians across preventive medicine, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery, and management of both routine and more complex medical cases.

The clinical environment is designed to give veterinarians the resources and support needed to practice high-quality medicine while maintaining professional autonomy. Dedicated areas for surgery and dentistry, diagnostic capabilities, and a supportive clinical team allow doctors to provide a broad range of care without unnecessarily restricting how they practice medicine.

What This Opportunity Offers

* Medical Director leadership opportunity with continued clinical practice * Medical autonomy * Equity and partnership opportunity * Established companion-animal client base * Collaborative veterinary team * Flexible scheduling * Mentorship and professional-development resources * Continuing education support * Paid professional dues * Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays * Medical, dental, and vision insurance * Professional liability coverage * 401(k) * Life and supplemental insurance options * Employee assistance program * Personal pet-care benefits * Sign-on bonus opportunity * Relocation assistance * Production-based earning opportunity with no negative accrual

Qualifications

* DVM or equivalent veterinary degree * Active Texas veterinary license or ability to obtain one * DEA license or ability to obtain one upon hire * USDA accreditation or ability to obtain it * Established clinical experience in companion-animal medicine * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to lead, mentor, and support veterinary professionals * Interest in contributing to the clinical direction and continued growth of a veterinary practice

This opportunity may be particularly appealing to an experienced veterinarian who is ready for greater influence over how medicine is practiced, wants to help develop a strong veterinary team, and is interested in the potential for long-term ownership.
