Position Summary
The Animal Research Technician supports study coordinators and researchers by performing routine and advanced study activities, technical procedures, and animal care. This role plays a key part in both research execution and maintaining high standards of animal welfare and facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Technical Support
* Assist with study activities and technical procedures following established protocols * Handle and restrain animals as directed * Observe and report changes in animal health, behavior, or consumption patterns * Collect specimens (e.g., blood, parasites, microbiological swabs) for analysis * Accurately record and maintain study and animal health data
Animal Care & Facility Support
* Administer medications and treatments; as directed * Prepare and manage feeds and specialized diets * Provide pre- and post-operative care * Receive, transport, and/or ship animals * Feed, water, groom, and exercise animals * Clean and sanitize animal rooms, cages, and equipment * Transfer animals, supplies, and equipment as needed
Qualifications
* High school diploma + 3 years of lab animal experience OR * Associate degree/certification in animal science + 2 years of experience OR * Bachelor’s degree in animal science + 1 year of experience * Driver’s License and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements
* Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly * Ability to stand and remain active for an 8-hour shift * Comfortable performing cleaning/sanitation tasks involving animal waste * Strong communication skills (verbal and written) * Must be fit for duty and able to work safely around animals and equipment
Schedule & Work Environment
* Full-time, 40 hours per week (On-Site) * Typical schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM * Must be available every other weekend, alternating schedule * Holiday and overtime work may be required
Compensation & Benefits
* $20.00–$22.00 per hour; based on experience * Health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance * Up to 3 weeks of PTO in the first year (increases with tenure) * Generous Retention/Referral Bonus Structure * 401(k) with company match up to 5%
