About the role

Job Description

AbbVie’s Global Forecasting Center of Excellence sets forecasting standards and builds the analytical capabilities that guide enterprise planning. As Manager, AI/ML Forecasting, you will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to forecast organizational sales. You will lead a small team of data scientists who operate, maintain, and expand these forecasting models, and you will partner with forecasters, finance, technology, and business teams to keep model outputs reliable, explainable, and aligned with planning cycles.

Responsibilities

* Operate and maintain AI/ML sales forecasting models, monitoring accuracy, reliability, and performance, and resolving or escalating issues. * Deliver model outputs on schedule to support financial planning cycles and downstream deadlines. * Build and refine new forecasting models using established standards for data, feature engineering, validation, and handoff. * Partner with stakeholders to understand business dynamics, curate inputs, and implement approved model changes. * Explain model results in clear, well-supported terms that withstand leadership scrutiny, including counterintuitive outcomes. * Help identify and prioritize the highest-value opportunities for new models. * Maintain thorough documentation of configurations, data inputs, adjustments, and performance history. * Stay current on AI/ML developments, including emerging architectures and large language model applications, and contribute to AI governance and responsible-use standards. * Lead, coach, and develop 1–3 data scientists, owning team prioritization and work planning.

Qualifications

Required

* Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (master’s preferred). * 5+ years of progressive experience in quantitative or analytical roles, including machine learning model development, validation, and operationalization. * Advanced proficiency in machine learning, including time-series forecasting, supervised learning, ensemble methods, and model evaluation. * Advanced proficiency in Python and/or R, with experience deploying and maintaining production ML models. * Ability to translate business context into modeling decisions and communicate technical results clearly to non-technical audiences. * Strong documentation skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a matrixed environment.

Preferred

* Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences commercial analytics, forecasting, or data science. * Experience with commercial volume forecasting and pharmaceutical data sources (e.g., prescription, patient flow, and epidemiology data). * Experience integrating models into business processes with defined planning cycles, and familiarity with enterprise forecasting platforms. * Exposure to large language models and generative AI in analytical contexts. * Experience with model governance frameworks, including documentation, validation, and responsible-use guidelines.
