About the Opportunity
An established and growing third-party logistics (3PL) organization is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead and oversee domestic and international transportation and logistics operations.
This fully remote leadership opportunity is ideal for a professional with a strong background in project cargo, freight forwarding, multimodal transportation, and operational management.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of directly leading teams, developing employees, managing performance, and ensuring accountability for operational results.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and oversight of transportation, freight forwarding, and project logistics operations.
* Directly manage, mentor, and develop operations and project management teams.
* Establish performance expectations, provide coaching, conduct performance evaluations, and maintain team accountability.
* Oversee complex domestic and international logistics projects.
* Develop and implement operational standards, procedures, and performance metrics.
* Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
* Collaborate with sourcing, sales, finance, and executive leadership to support business objectives.
* Monitor project performance, financial results, customer satisfaction, and operational risks.
* Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and contractual requirements.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and vendors.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Required Qualifications
* 7–10+ years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, freight forwarding, or third-party logistics.
* Proven experience directly supervising and leading teams, including employee development, performance management, coaching, and accountability.
* Demonstrated success in building and managing high-performing operational teams.
* Previous experience in a senior operations leadership or management role.
* Strong knowledge of project cargo and multimodal transportation.
* Experience managing complex logistics projects and remote teams.
* Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance, financial results, and customer satisfaction.
* Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making skills.
* Proficiency in transportation management systems and Microsoft Office.
* Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
* Experience overseeing multiple operational functions within a third-party logistics organization.
* Experience developing and implementing operational processes and performance improvement initiatives.
