About the role

About Routine Labs A lot of critical work in Germany still happens in legacy software. Routine Labs automates it: we record the process, AI writes the automation, and only deterministic, testable code runs in production. Our clients are in regulated industries, where "it usually works" isn't good enough.

The role You own the layer where generated automations meet real legacy software: making them run, noticing when they break, and producing the diagnosis that gets them fixed at the source.

What you'll do

* Build the engine that drives legacy desktop apps reliably, including apps that were never designed to be automated and give you very little to work with.

* Make automations hold up in remote and virtualized environments like RDP and Citrix, where the usual automation hooks often aren't available.

* Own the runtime side of the repair loop: when an automation fails, the runtime should know why and hand the generation pipeline a diagnosis it can act on, instead of waiting for someone to patch it by hand. The fix itself is regenerated and reviewed, never hot-patched in production.

* Build and own the replay infrastructure: real client recordings, replayed on our Windows VMs, with execution success tracked for every runtime change. Generation quality metrics run on top of it.

What you bring

* You've built and run production Python systems that other people depended on.

* You've automated desktop apps or built test/automation infrastructure, and you know why it breaks.

* You've worked against Windows UI automation APIs (UI Automation, MSAA, Win32) or their equivalents, and you know what they don't expose.

* You measure whether something works before claiming it does.

* Business-fluent German and good English.

Bonus: Citrix/RDP, OCR or vision-based fallbacks, durable workflow engines like Temporal.

How we work & what we offer

* We're a small team of 8 in Berlin. You'll work directly with our founding engineer. Engineers join client onboardings, because the best product decisions come from seeing real processes up close. Our stack is Python/FastAPI, PostgreSQL and background jobs on a fleet of Windows VMs.

Join the team shaping the technical foundation of a company redefining how legacy software gets automated.

We value diverse perspectives and welcome candidates of all genders, identities and backgrounds.
