About the role

About the role

Aalo Atomics is building and operating advanced sodium cooled reactors, including a Department of Energy (DOE) authorized reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory site and a reactor manufacturing facility in Texas. The Industrial Hygienist builds and runs the company industrial hygiene program at all sites: exposure assessment, exposure monitoring, control selection, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and the industrial hygiene records that support medical surveillance. The program is built to 10 CFR 851 and its Appendix A at every site.

What you'll do

* Develop and maintain the industrial hygiene and exposure assessment program under 10 CFR 851 Appendix A, Section 6, and 29 CFR 1910 expanded health standards. * Conduct baseline surveys of all work areas and operations, define similar exposure groups, and maintain the exposure assessment strategy and resurvey schedule. * Perform personal and area monitoring for chemical, physical, and biological agents, including hexavalent chromium and welding fumes, respirable crystalline silica, noise, inert gas and oxygen deficient atmospheres, alkali metal aerosols, lighting, and ergonomic stressors, using accredited laboratories and calibrated instruments. * Make and document exposure determinations, approve objective data, and notify employees of results within required timeframes. * Administer the respiratory protection program under 29 CFR 1910.134, including selection, medical evaluation coordination, training, and program evaluation. * Administer the hearing conservation program under 29 CFR 1910.95. * Evaluate ventilation and other engineering controls and recommend controls using the hierarchy in 10 CFR 851.22. * Participate in design reviews of new facilities and modifications to anticipate and control health hazards. * Coordinate with the occupational medicine provider on medical surveillance triggers and provide exposure information required by the applicable standards. * Maintain the industrial hygiene database and exposure records under 29 CFR 1910.1020 and 10 CFR 851.26. * Develop and deliver industrial hygiene training content and support hazard analysis for work planning. * Support DOE, landlord, and insurance carrier surveys and assessments.

Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science in industrial hygiene, occupational health, or physical, chemical, or biological science. * At least five years of industrial hygiene practice with hands on exposure assessment, including air sampling and noise monitoring. * Working knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 Subpart Z, 29 CFR 1910.134, 29 CFR 1910.95, and ACGIH Threshold Limit Values. * Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a DOE site and to meet export control requirements for access to controlled technology. * Ability to travel approximately 25 percent.

Preferred Qualifications

* Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or eligible to sit for the examination; the company supports certification. * Experience at a DOE site under 10 CFR 851. * Experience with welding, machining, and metal fabrication exposures, and with inert atmosphere or reactive metal operations. * Experience building an industrial hygiene program from the baseline survey forward.
