GENERAL SUMMARY:
Unit Overview:
Critical care is a crucial part of intensive care for many conditions. Specially trained nurses at Henry Ford Hospital work closely with other specialists to provide the highest after treatment).
Pods 5&6 MICU, all very complex patients, i.e. sepsis, GI bleeds, COVID.
* This department is always trying new equipment, hemodynamic monitoring devices. * Certifications needed: ACLS will be provided * 1 year experience as a RN required * High retention rate, many senior nurses, mid-level providers (NPs PAs), no residents, many long term patients which means we really get to know our patients.

As a Nurse Extern, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Your contributions will directly impact patient safety, comfort, and overall care experience. This role is ideal for nursing students seeking hands-on experience in an acute care setting while advancing their education and career in healthcare.

What You Will Do
* Assist in providing specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs under RN supervision. * Provide input to help RNs plan and implement patient care. * Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures. * Participate in continuing education to enhance your nursing skills and knowledge. * Maintain active enrollment in a nursing program and provide academic progress updates to your Nurse Manager.

Required Qualifications
* High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent OR currently enrolled in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations. * Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing with completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg in an acute care setting. * Current Health Care Provider Certification.
