About the role
Data Governance & Protection Expert
Data is one of ING’s most important assets. Managing it responsibly helps us earn the trust of our customers, employees, regulators and wider stakeholders.
As a Data Governance & Protection Expert, you will turn policy and regulatory requirements into practical ways of working. You will strengthen data ownership, improve how data risks and controls are managed, and help ING use and protect data responsibly. This is a hands-on role with broad exposure across the organisation and the opportunity to make a visible impact on ING’s data culture and control environment.
The team
You will join the UK COO Data Management team, which supports data governance, data management and data protection across ING in London.
We work closely with business teams and with Technology, Legal, Compliance, Risk and Human Resources. Together, we make sure data is treated as a strategic asset, protected appropriately and governed in line with ING policies and regulatory expectations. You will be a central member of the team, coordinating day-to-day governance and protection activities and building trusted relationships across the branch.
Roles and responsibilities
You will help strengthen ING UK’s data governance and data protection capabilities by:
* Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of data governance and data protection frameworks across ING UK. * Coordinating activities that establish clear ownership and accountability for data assets, data quality and data related risks. * Carrying out and supporting data protection assessments, monitoring, action tracking and remediation. * Maintaining accurate governance documentation, inventories, records and evidence for internal and regulatory requirements. * Producing clear reporting, dashboards and management information for governance forums, committees and senior leaders. * Partnering with business and control functions to translate policy and regulatory requirements into practical, sustainable activities. * Monitoring actions from audits, assessments and governance reviews, and helping owners bring them to timely completion. * Supporting awareness and engagement activities that promote responsible data handling and a strong data culture across the organisation.
How to succeed We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
* Practical experience in data governance, data protection or privacy, data management, risk, compliance or a related control discipline. * A sound understanding of data governance principles and personal data protection requirements. * Experience working in a regulated environment and turning requirements into clear actions and practical outcomes. * Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to work across business and specialist functions. * A proactive and collaborative approach, with the judgement to identify issues, challenge constructively and drive actions through to completion.
