About the role

As Ampowr’s BESS Technical Director, you will lead our hardware engineering strategy and guide a multidisciplinary team through the entire product lifecycle—from initial concept and prototyping to grid connection and full release.

In this role, you will be directly exposed to the NL and UK energy storage market, ensuring our systems meet rigorous regional grid requirements and scale effectively.

What you will do:

* Own the hardware engineering roadmap for our BESS platform in close collaboration with product and software teams. * Provide hands-on leadership across power electronics, control systems, battery interfaces, and hardware integration. * Drive compliance with DNO approval processes, G99 connection standards, and international regulations (ISO/IEC). * Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team while establishing clear design controls and documentation standards. * Oversee the design, prototyping, testing, and validation of electronics, control boards, and communication modules. * Conduct technical due diligence with Tier-1 battery suppliers, PCS manufacturers, and OEM partners. * Support site energization, commissioning, and complex customer technical inquiries alongside commercial and operations teams.

What you bring:

* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Electronics, or a related field. * 7+ years of leadership experience in hardware or system development within renewable energy, BESS, or power electronics. * Hands-on knowledge of DNO and utility approval processes, grid connections, and compliance testing. * Direct experience in the UK energy storage or solar market is a strong plus. * Deep understanding of MV equipment (switchgear, transformers, relays), balance-of-plant engineering, and power conversion systems. * Solid background in embedded electronics, PCB design, sensors, and control systems. * Familiarity with BMS architectures, firmware interfacing, and EMS integration is a plus. * Experience thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth engineering environment. * Fluent in English; Dutch proficiency is a plus.

What we offer:

* Compensation for additional costs related to your employment. * 70% employer contribution to your pensionable salary. * Between 25-35 paid holiday days per year (based on full-time employment). * Hybrid work environment. * Travel allowance. * Catered lunch at the office. * Work equipment supplied by the company. * Opportunities for personal development (training, programmes, etc.). * A dynamic and inspiring environment, where you’ll have every opportunity to challenge yourself and bring your ideas to life. * The chance to work for an international company with a great team. We have an open culture and a flat organisational structure, working together towards the same goal. * Freedom to come up with and implement your ideas.
