Account Manager Resume Example (2026)

By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page

Account managers are hired to keep and grow customers, so an account manager resume should lead with the book you managed, its renewal rate and the expansion revenue you added. Relationship skills matter, but they're only believable when attached to results like these.

The example below is a senior account manager with six years, first managing small-business print accounts and now a $6.2M book of software customers. Notice how a service failure and an at-risk account become bullets about saved revenue.

How to write an account manager resume

Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.

  1. Header: name, target title and links

Use Account Manager or the ad's variant (Key Account Manager, Client Manager, Relationship Manager), plus LinkedIn. If your title differed, keep it on the role and use the searched title in the summary.

  2. Summary: what you do and your best proof

Describe your book (accounts, revenue, segment), your renewal or retention rate, and the expansion revenue you added in the last full year.

  3. Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet

Open each role with the book, then retention and growth, then how you got there: account plans, reviews, negotiations, saves. Name the type of accounts and the contacts you dealt with.

  4. Skills: grouped, in the ad's words

Group account management skills, tools and industries. Mention your CRM and any customer platform such as Gainsight by name.

  5. Education and certifications

Degree and year are enough; account management hiring leans on your numbers. Industry training or a negotiation course can go in a short line.

Skills to put on an account manager resume

Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.

Account Manager resume bullet examples: weak vs strong

The same work, written two ways. The strong version names the tool, the scope and a result; the numbers are examples, yours must be real.

  1. Weak: Managed client accounts.

Strong: Managed 60 enterprise accounts worth $9M ARR in healthcare and education, keeping net revenue retention at 112%.

Book size, value and the retention metric account managers are judged on.

  2. Weak: Upsold products to existing customers.

Strong: Grew 12 accounts from one product to the full suite by mapping unmet needs in QBRs, adding $640K ARR in a year.

Expansion with the method and the revenue.

  3. Weak: Handled renewals.

Strong: Started renewal conversations 120 days early with a value review, raising on-time renewals from 78% to 94%.

A process change with a measurable result.

  4. Weak: Resolved customer issues.

Strong: Led the recovery of a $300K account after a data outage with daily updates and a service-credit plan; the customer renewed for 2 years.

Escalation handling proven by the renewal it saved.

  5. Weak: Built relationships with key stakeholders.

Strong: Built relationships with the CFO and IT director at 15 top accounts, so every renewal over $100K had an executive sponsor.

Relationships described as coverage with a result.

  6. Weak: Prepared reports for clients.

Strong: Created ROI reports from product usage showing hours saved per month, used in 30 renewals and in winning 4 customer references.

Reporting tied to renewals and advocacy.

Common account manager resume mistakes

Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.

  1. Relationships with no revenue attached

“Built strong relationships” needs a result. Tie relationships to renewals, expansions or saves.

  2. No book size

Managing 15 accounts and 150 are different jobs. Give the count and the revenue.

  3. Blurring new business and expansion

If you didn't hunt new logos, don't imply it. Show renewal and growth numbers, clearly labelled.

  4. Leaving out saves

Accounts you kept after something went wrong are strong proof. Give the at-risk accounts saved and the revenue kept.

  5. Ignoring the internal work

Account managers deliver through support, product and finance. One bullet on rallying them for a customer shows how you get things done.

ATS tips for an account manager resume

Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.

  • Lead with your book of business (accounts and ARR or annual revenue), renewal rate and expansion revenue; account manager ads ask for exactly these.
  • Name the CRM and customer tools you ran the book in (Salesforce, Gainsight, HubSpot).
  • Use the words upsell, cross-sell, renewals and retention in bullets where they're true; recruiters search for them.
  • Say what kind of accounts you managed: segment, industry and the contacts you worked with.
  • If your title was client, customer or relationship manager, keep it and use "account manager" in your summary.

Account Manager resume FAQ

What's the difference between an account manager and an account executive resume?

An account executive resume focuses on winning new customers: quota, new revenue and sales cycles. An account manager resume focuses on keeping and growing existing ones: renewal rate, expansion revenue and the size of the book.

How do I show account management results without sales numbers?

Use retention and relationship measures: renewal rate, satisfaction scores, accounts saved from churn, references and case studies you secured, and response times you kept.

Should I list my clients' names?

Only if they're publicly known customers of your employer and you're free to share them. Otherwise describe them by industry and size, such as "20 regional hospital systems".
