Sales Manager Resume Example (2026)
By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page
Sales manager job ads almost always ask for the same two things: did you hit your number, and can you make other people hit theirs. A resume that only lists CRM software and a job title tells a hiring manager nothing about either. Each bullet should name the team size, the quota or pipeline, and what changed under your management.
The example below is a sales manager with six years leading teams at a regional distributor and a software company. Notice how each bullet names the team, the metric and the result, instead of describing responsibilities in the abstract.

How to write a sales manager resume
Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.
Header: name, target title and links
Lead with your current team size and your most recent quota attainment; both belong near the top where a hiring manager will see them in seconds.
Summary: what you do and your best proof
State how many people you manage, what they sell and to whom, then one number: team revenue, quota attainment or a specific turnaround. Skip generic claims like "strong leader"; show it through the number instead.
Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet
Open each bullet with the team or deal affected, then the action you took, then the measurable result: a quota percentage, a ramp time, a revenue figure. If you were promoted from individual contributor, keep that record in its own job entry so both stories are clear.
Skills: grouped, in the ad's words
Group into sales process (pipeline, forecasting, territory planning), tools (your CRM and sales engagement platforms) and leadership (hiring, coaching, comp design). List the CRM by name since many ads filter for it.
Education and certifications
A bachelor's degree is usually enough; list it plainly with the year. Sales management certifications (Sandler, Challenger) are worth including if you hold one, but results carry far more weight than credentials in this field.
Skills to put on a sales manager resume
Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.
Hard skills
- Pipeline management
- Give the number of open opportunities you review and how often, plus one example of a stalled deal you caught.
- Forecasting
- State your forecast accuracy and who used the number, such as finance or an executive team.
- Salesforce (or your CRM)
- Mention a report, dashboard or scoring rule you built in it, not just that you used it daily.
- Territory planning
- Describe how you split accounts or regions among reps and one result, such as faster coverage of a new market.
- Coaching
- Name a rep or a skill gap you coached and the measurable change, like ramp time or win rate.
- Hiring
- Give the number of reps you hired and a retention or ramp-time result.
- Commission plan design
- Describe a change you made to incentives and the behavior it shifted, such as more new-logo deals.
- Quota setting
- Explain how you set or adjusted quotas, by territory or tenure, and how attainment moved.
- Sales methodology (MEDDIC, Sandler, etc.)
- Name the methodology you train the team on and a metric it improved, like qualification accuracy.
- Sales enablement
- Point to a playbook, script or training you built and the team metric it moved.
- Deal review
- Describe your cadence for reviewing deals and a save or loss pattern you caught early.
- Cross-functional partnership
- Name the team you worked with (marketing, product) and what the partnership produced.
Soft skills
- Developing people
- Describe one rep you brought from underperforming to quota and what you changed in how you worked with them.
- Accountability
- Show how you handle missed targets, such as a specific performance conversation or plan.
- Resilience
- Describe a tough quarter or lost deal and what you adjusted afterward.
- Communication
- Give an example of presenting results to leadership or translating a target into a team plan.
- Conflict resolution
- Mention a territory dispute or comp disagreement you resolved and how.
- Prioritization
- Show how you decide which deals or reps need your attention first in a busy week.
- Mentorship
- Count reps you've developed into senior roles or management, not just managed day to day.

Sales Manager resume summary examples
Two or three lines on what you do and your strongest proof. Start from the one closest to your level and use your own facts.

Common sales manager resume mistakes
Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.
Listing responsibilities instead of results
"Responsible for team performance" says nothing a hiring manager can evaluate. Replace it with the quota number and the attainment percentage.
Blurring individual and management results
If you were promoted during your tenure, separate the job entries so your own quota record doesn't get confused with your team's.
No mention of team size
Managing 3 reps and managing 30 are very different jobs. State your team size plainly in the summary or the first bullet of each role.
Vague coaching claims
"Coached the team to improve performance" could mean anything. Name one rep or skill gap and the specific change in outcome.
Missing the CRM or sales tools
Many sales manager postings filter by platform experience. List the CRM and sales engagement tools you used by name.
ATS tips for a sales manager resume
Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.
- State your team size and quota attainment near the top; hiring managers look for both within the first few lines.
- Name the CRM you used (Salesforce, HubSpot) since many sales manager ads filter for specific platform experience.
- Show coaching with before-and-after numbers for a specific rep or deal, not just "coached the team".
- Separate individual contributor results from team results clearly if you were promoted mid-resume.
- Mention forecast accuracy or pipeline size if you own either; it signals you can be trusted with revenue planning.

Sales Manager resume FAQ
What should a sales manager resume emphasize?
Team size, quota attainment and one or two specific examples of coaching a rep or deal to a better outcome. Hitting your own number as an individual contributor matters less once you're managing others to theirs.
How do I show management experience if I was only promoted recently?
Separate your individual contributor results from your management results in different jobs, and use your short time as a manager to show one concrete change you made, even if the full-year numbers aren't in yet.
Should a sales manager resume include quota numbers?
Yes, with attainment percentage and dollar figures when you can. A stated number is more convincing than a general claim like "exceeded targets".
What tools should I list on a sales manager resume?
The CRM and sales engagement tools you used daily (Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong), plus any forecasting or reporting tools, since many ads screen for specific platform experience.
How we built this page
The FindAJobAI team wrote the three example resumes, the bullets, the skills and the advice for sales manager roles. The people, employers and numbers in the examples are invented; the structure, the tools and the way each bullet is built are the parts to copy.
Once we track enough live sales manager job ads, this page also shows the skills they ask for most, counted the same way as our in-demand skills report.
