Business Analyst Resume Example (2026)
By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page
Business analyst ads ask for two skill sets at once: requirements work (user stories, process maps, acceptance testing) and data skills (SQL, Excel, a BI tool). A business analyst resume should show both, and follow each project past the documents to what changed after go-live.
The example below is a business analyst with five years in banking operations and insurance claims technology. Every bullet names the method or tool, the people involved and the result the business saw.

How to write a business analyst resume
Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.
Header: name, target title and links
Use Business Analyst or the ad's variant (IT Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst), plus LinkedIn. Add your IIBA or agile certification after your name only if the ad stresses it.
Summary: what you do and your best proof
Name the industry, the systems or processes you analyze, and both halves of the job: requirements work and data skills. Close with one result after go-live.
Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet
For each project, show the artifact you produced (stories, process maps, UAT plans) and what the business saw afterwards: time saved, errors cut, a compliance deadline met.
Skills: grouped, in the ad's words
Group analysis methods, data tools, delivery tools and domain knowledge. Write out the notations you know (BPMN, UML, use cases), because recruiters search for them.
Education and certifications
Degree and year, then IIBA (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP), PMI-PBA or agile certifications in their own section. Domain courses, such as insurance or banking qualifications, are worth a line.
Skills to put on a business analyst resume

Business Analyst resume summary examples
Two or three lines on what you do and your strongest proof. Start from the one closest to your level and use your own facts.
Business analyst with a finance degree and 18 months as an operations analyst at a bank, documenting procedures and building SQL and Excel reports. Holds the IIBA ECBA certificate and wants to lead requirements on technology projects.
Business analyst with 4 years in retail and e-commerce, leading requirements for order management and inventory systems. Bridges operations and engineering teams, and backs recommendations with SQL and Tableau analysis.
Senior business analyst with 11 years in banking, leading analysis for core-system and regulatory change programs up to $25M. Manages 3 analysts and sets the requirements and traceability standards for the change portfolio.
Common business analyst resume mistakes
Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.
Documents as the result
“Wrote requirements documents” stops halfway. Say what changed after the system or process went live.
Only one half of the job
Business analyst ads ask for requirements work and data skills. Give each at least one bullet.
No domain vocabulary
Insurance, banking and ERP projects each have their own terms. Use them, because recruiters filter on industry experience.
Vague stakeholder claims
“Worked with stakeholders” is on every analyst's resume. Say who, how many, and what you got them to agree.
Blurring business and data analyst roles
If the ad is about requirements and processes, lead with that work rather than dashboards, and the reverse for data analyst roles.
ATS tips for a business analyst resume
Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.
- Show both halves the ad asks for: requirements work (user stories, process maps, UAT) and data skills (SQL, Excel, a BI tool).
- Name the methods and notations you use, such as BPMN, use cases, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Add domain keywords (claims, payments, ERP, CRM); business analyst ads often require knowledge of the industry.
- Put IIBA certifications (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP) or agile certifications in their own section, spelled out once.
- Give each project its result after go-live, not only the documents you produced.
For the format itself, run the free ATS resume checklist.

Business Analyst resume FAQ
What's the difference between a business analyst and a data analyst resume?
A business analyst resume centers on requirements, processes and delivering change, with data skills in support. A data analyst resume centers on analysis, dashboards and the insights they produced.
Are business analysis certifications worth it?
They can help, especially in banking, insurance and government, where IIBA certifications are sometimes listed in ads. Measurable project results still matter more than the letters.
How do I show business analyst impact?
Tie your requirements and analysis to what changed after go-live: time saved, errors removed, costs cut or revenue protected. Say what you produced and what it led to.
