Tutor Resume Example (2026)
By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page
Tutoring resumes get judged on one question: did your students improve, and can you prove it. Subjects, platforms and age groups vary, but every strong bullet names a starting point, what you taught, and where the student ended up, whether that's a test score, a grade, or a skill they couldn't do before.
The example below tutors high schoolers in math and test prep, split between an online platform and private clients. Notice how the bullets name the subject, the student's starting level and the measured gain, instead of just listing hours tutored.

How to write a tutor resume
Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.
Header: name, target title and links
Use the title "Tutor" even if your role was called Learning Coach or Academic Mentor, and name your core subjects right in the headline or summary if you specialize, such as "Math Tutor" or "SAT Prep Tutor."
Summary: what you do and your best proof
State your subjects, the age group or level you work with, and one measurable result, such as an average score gain or grade improvement across your students. Skip lines like "passionate about helping students succeed"; show it with a number instead.
Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet
Open each bullet with the subject and student group, then the method, then the outcome: scores, grades or skills gained. Counting hours tutored says less than naming how many students improved and by how much.
Skills: grouped, in the ad's words
Group skills into subjects, tutoring methods and tools, naming specific courses or test names rather than "math" alone. Include online platforms if you tutor remotely, since many ads filter for them.
Education and certifications
List your degree and year, plus any relevant certification like a teaching credential, subject-matter certificate or CPR/First Aid. Without formal tutoring experience, add informal tutoring, coursework or an Activities section showing relevant teaching or mentoring.
Skills to put on a tutor resume
Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.
Hard skills
- Subject mastery
- Name the specific courses or levels you tutor and the highest level you're comfortable teaching.
- Diagnostic assessment
- Describe how you find a student's gaps, such as a baseline quiz, and what you do with the result.
- Test prep (SAT/ACT/AP)
- Name the test and give an average score or point gain across your students.
- Lesson planning
- Mention building a plan around a student's actual school curriculum or textbook, not a generic script.
- Progress tracking
- Point to a tracker, spreadsheet or report you used to show gains over time.
- Online tutoring tools
- Name the platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom, specific test-prep software) and your session volume.
- Error analysis
- Describe reviewing a student's mistakes to find a pattern, then how you targeted it.
- Curriculum design
- If you built a multi-week plan or course, say what it covered and how many students used it.
- Group facilitation
- Give the group size and how you kept a range of skill levels engaged at once.
- Learning differences support
- Name the accommodation or strategy you used, such as extended time practice or chunked instructions.
- Parent/guardian communication
- Mention a reporting cadence (weekly notes, monthly calls) and what it caught early.
- Study skills coaching
- Describe teaching organization or time management alongside the subject, with an outcome like fewer missed assignments.
Soft skills
- Patience
- Describe a student who struggled repeatedly and how you adjusted your approach until it worked.
- Clear explanation
- Mention breaking a hard concept into steps a specific student could follow, with the result.
- Encouragement
- Point to a student's confidence or attitude change you noticed over a tracked period.
- Adaptability
- Show adjusting a lesson on the spot when a planned approach wasn't working.
- Reliability
- Give your session count or attendance rate over a stretch of time.
- Active listening
- Describe catching a misunderstanding a student hadn't voiced, from how they explained their work.
- Organization
- Mention managing multiple students' schedules, materials or progress notes at once.

Two or three lines on what you do and your strongest proof. Start from the one closest to your level and use your own facts.

Common tutor resume mistakes
Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.
Listing hours instead of outcomes
"500 hours of tutoring" says you showed up, not that it worked. Pair your experience with a score, grade or skill change.
Naming every subject you've ever touched
A long, unfocused subject list reads as shallow. List the subjects you tutor most and best, matched to the job ad.
No mention of student age or level
Tutoring a kindergartener and an AP senior require different skills. Say which age group or level you work with most.
Skipping informal tutoring experience
Helping siblings, classmates or study groups counts if you can describe the subject and the result, especially for entry-level resumes.
Vague claims about explaining things well
"Great at explaining concepts" is unverifiable. Replace it with a specific concept you broke down and what the student did with it afterward.
ATS tips for a tutor resume
Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.
- Name the subjects and grade levels you tutor; a generic "tutor" ad often hides very specific subject needs.
- Show score or grade movement with a before and after number whenever you have it, even from a handful of students.
- Mention the platforms you've used (Zoom, Google Classroom, specific test-prep software) if the job is online.
- Call out any special population you've supported, such as students with learning differences or English language learners.
- If you tutored informally, such as for siblings or classmates, count it as experience and describe the subject and the result.

Tutor resume FAQ
What should a tutor put on a resume with no formal tutoring job?
Count informal tutoring, such as helping classmates, siblings or study groups, and describe the subject and the outcome. Add any relevant coursework or certification, like a subject-specific degree.
How do I show results on a tutoring resume?
Use grade, score or skill-level changes you tracked or that students and parents reported, such as a quiz average, a test score gain or moving up a reading level.
Should I list every subject I can tutor?
List the subjects you tutor most and best, matched to the ad. A long list of unrelated subjects can read as unfocused; depth in a few subjects reads as expertise.
How we built this page
The FindAJobAI team wrote the three example resumes, the bullets, the skills and the advice for tutor roles. The people, employers and numbers in the examples are invented; the structure, the tools and the way each bullet is built are the parts to copy.
Once we track enough live tutor job ads, this page also shows the skills they ask for most, counted the same way as our in-demand skills report.
