UX Designer Resume Example (2026)

By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page

UX designer job ads usually list the same tools: Figma, some flavor of user research, and a portfolio link. What separates candidates is evidence that their research or design decisions changed a product metric or a stakeholder's mind. A UX designer resume should say what you tested, what you learned, and what shipped differently because of it.

The example below is a UX designer with five years split between a logistics SaaS company and a meal-kit delivery startup. Notice how each bullet names the method, the problem and the measured outcome, instead of counting screens or wireframes delivered.

How to write a UX designer resume

Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.

  1. Header: name, target title and links

Use the title “UX Designer” even if yours was Product Designer or UI/UX Designer, and add your portfolio as a plain label like “Portfolio.” Recruiters search the standard title, and a hiring manager will open one strong case study.

  2. Summary: what you do and your best proof

Name your core research methods, your design tool, and the kind of product you design for, then one result: a metric your design work moved. Skip lines like “passionate about user-centered design”; they fit every applicant.

  3. Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet

Open each bullet with the problem or the audience, then the method and the result: what you tested, what you found and what shipped differently. Counting screens or wireframes says little; one usability fix that changed a metric says a lot.

  4. Skills: grouped, in the ad's words

Group them into design tools, research methods and collaboration or technical extras. Put specific methods next to "research" (usability testing, interviews, card sorting), and leave out tools you only touched in a course unless the ad asks for them.

  5. Education and certifications

List your degree with the year, plus a certificate such as the Google UX Design Certificate if you hold one. Without design experience, add a Projects section with two case studies on self-initiated or volunteer work, each stating its problem and its outcome.

Skills to put on a UX designer resume

Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.

Hard skills

Figma
Mention a component library or prototype you built in it and the team or process it sped up.
Usability testing
Say how many participants, what you tested, and one issue the test caught before launch.
User interviews
Give the number of interviews and the insight that changed a design or a priority.
Wireframing
Tie a wireframe to the problem it solved, not just the fact that you made one.
Prototyping
Note the fidelity (low or clickable) and what it let you test before a line of code was written.
A/B testing
Name the two versions tested, the metric, and which one won.
Design systems
Count the components and the teams or squads that adopted it.
Card sorting
Say how many participants and how it reshaped a navigation or menu structure.
Journey mapping
Point to a pain point the map surfaced that led to a specific fix.
Accessibility (WCAG)
Name a specific fix, like contrast or keyboard navigation, and how many screens it touched.
Developer handoff
Mention the tool or spec format you use and how it reduced back-and-forth with engineers.
Survey design
Give the respondent count and one finding that shaped a design decision.

Soft skills

Storytelling
Write one bullet where a research finding led to a stakeholder decision, naming who made it.
Stakeholder management
Show a design direction you aligned with multiple PMs or engineers, with the number of people involved.
Curiosity
Describe a question you asked that wasn't in the original brief and what it changed.
Critique and feedback
Mention a critique process you ran or improved and its effect on design consistency.
Prioritization
Give your research or design request volume and how you decided what to tackle first.
Empathy
Point to a user pain point you surfaced that the team had overlooked.
Mentoring
Count the designers you coached and the skill or process you helped them build.

UX Designer resume bullet examples: weak vs strong

The same work, written two ways. The strong version names the tool, the scope and a result; the numbers are examples, yours must be real.

  1. Weak: Designed wireframes for new features.

Strong: Wireframed a redesigned filters panel after a card-sorting study with 12 users, which cut average time-to-first-result from 48 to 19 seconds.

Names the research method, the design artifact and the measured result.

  2. Weak: Conducted user research.

Strong: Interviewed 15 small-business owners about invoicing pain points, surfacing a missing bulk-edit feature that became the team's top Q2 priority.

Shows research leading directly to a prioritized decision.

  3. Weak: Improved the user experience.

Strong: Simplified the 6-step signup form to 3 steps after a usability study flagged the password rules as the top drop-off point, raising completed signups by 14%.

A specific problem, a specific fix and a measured outcome.

  4. Weak: Created a design system.

Strong: Built a Figma design system of 45 reusable components adopted by 3 product squads, cutting design-to-dev handoff time by about 30%.

Turns a deliverable into a measurable team-wide impact.

  5. Weak: Worked closely with engineers.

Strong: Ran weekly handoff reviews with 4 engineers that cut reported UI inconsistencies from 10 to 2 per sprint.

Shows collaboration with a concrete before-and-after.

  6. Weak: Tested designs with users.

Strong: A/B tested two onboarding checklists with 5,000 users each, shipping the version that raised 7-day retention by 6%.

Testing framed as a decision with a measured business result.

Common UX designer resume mistakes

Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.

  1. Tools with no outcome attached

Figma and usability testing in Skills say what you can use; the bullets must say what you found or changed with them. Pair each method with a problem it solved.

  2. Counting screens instead of decisions

“Designed 30 screens” invites the question of what changed because of them. Name the problem and the result a design decision produced.

  3. A portfolio with only final screens

Polished mockups show craft but hide process. Include the problem, the research and the iterations, not just the finished design.

  4. Vague research claims

“Conducted user research” hides scope. Say how many participants, what method, and what you learned.

  5. No mention of collaboration

UX work rarely happens solo. Include at least one bullet showing how you worked with PMs or engineers to ship a decision.

ATS tips for a UX designer resume

Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.

  • Name the research methods you used (usability testing, interviews, card sorting); ads often ask for specific ones, not just "user research".
  • Describe design work by the problem it solved and the metric it moved, not by how many screens or wireframes you produced.
  • Mention Figma specifically along with any design system or component library work; most ads name the tool.
  • If you link a portfolio, lead with one case study that states the problem, the research, the design decision and the outcome.
  • Include at least one bullet showing collaboration with engineers or PMs, since UX work rarely happens in isolation.

UX Designer resume FAQ

What skills should a UX designer put on a resume?

Figma or a similar design tool, specific research methods such as usability testing and interviews, and the ability to explain how a design decision solved a user problem. Show each one in a bullet tied to an outcome, not just a skills list.

How do I get a UX design job with no experience?

Build one or two case studies with real or self-initiated research, framed as a problem, a process and an outcome, and count related work like customer support or marketing design as transferable experience.

Should I include a portfolio link on a UX designer resume?

Yes, almost always. List it as a plain label like "Portfolio" and make sure it opens to 2-3 case studies that show your process, not just final screens.

Do I need to know how to code as a UX designer?

Basic HTML/CSS helps with developer handoff and is sometimes listed in ads, but it is not a substitute for strong research and design skills. Mention it only if you can back it up.

How we built this page

The FindAJobAI team wrote the three example resumes, the bullets, the skills and the advice for UX designer roles. The people, employers and numbers in the examples are invented; the structure, the tools and the way each bullet is built are the parts to copy.

Once we track enough live UX designer job ads, this page also shows the skills they ask for most, counted the same way as our in-demand skills report.
