Compliance Analyst Resume Example (2026)
By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page
Compliance analyst job ads usually ask for the same base: a regulation or two by name (AML, BSA, GDPR, SOX), case or alert review experience, and a tool like Actimize or SAS. What separates candidates is evidence that their reviews caught something or changed a policy, not just that cases were closed on time.
The example below is a compliance analyst with five years across a regional bank and a payments company. Notice how each bullet names the regulation or risk area, the volume reviewed and what the review led to, instead of counting cases closed.

How to write a compliance analyst resume
Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.
Header: name, target title and links
Use the title “Compliance Analyst” even if yours was Risk Analyst or AML Specialist, and name the industry (banking, fintech, insurance) since the regulations differ. Hiring managers scan for the regulation names first.
Summary: what you do and your best proof
Name the regulations you work with (AML, KYC, BSA, OFAC), your main tool, and one result such as a cleared backlog or a policy you rewrote. Skip lines like “detail-oriented team player”; every compliance resume says that.
Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet
Open bullets with the review type and volume, then the finding or action: what you caught, filed or changed. “Reviewed alerts” says little; a SAR filed, a gap found before an exam or a backlog cleared says a lot.
Skills: grouped, in the ad's words
Group them into regulatory knowledge, tools and process skills. Spell out acronyms once if the ad uses the full term, and only list tools you've actually used in a work setting.
Education and certifications
List your degree with the year, plus CAMS or another compliance certification if held or in progress. Without analyst experience, add internship or related audit/records work with a volume and a catch, framed around a regulation or control.
Skills to put on a compliance analyst resume
Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.
Hard skills
- AML transaction monitoring
- Name the system you used (Actimize, SAS, NICE) and the monthly alert volume you reviewed.
- KYC/CDD
- Say how many files or accounts you reviewed and one gap you caught, such as missing beneficial ownership records.
- SAR filing
- Give the typical number you filed in a period and the pattern that triggered one filing.
- OFAC/sanctions screening
- Mention the screening tool and a specific list update you applied or a false hit you resolved.
- Policy drafting
- Name a policy you wrote or updated and the regulation or finding that drove the change.
- Regulatory exam support
- Name the exam type (state, OCC, internal audit) and your role in it, such as document requests answered.
- Control testing
- Describe a control you tested and whether it passed, with the number of controls or files sampled.
- Risk scoring
- Explain a risk model or scoring approach you worked with and what it was used to decide.
- Case documentation
- Point to the volume of case notes you wrote and that they held up under audit or exam review.
- Excel
- Name the features you used (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) next to a tracker or report it supported.
- Fraud pattern recognition
- Describe a pattern you identified, such as structuring or account takeover, and what happened next.
- Regulatory research
- Name a rule change (FinCEN, GDPR, a state law) you researched and how it changed a procedure.
Soft skills
- Attention to detail
- Describe a discrepancy or missing document you caught before it became a finding.
- Clear documentation
- Mention case notes or a report that an examiner or auditor was able to follow without follow-up questions.
- Judgment under ambiguity
- Give an example of a borderline case and how you decided whether to escalate it.
- Cross-team communication
- Name the teams you worked with (risk, legal, frontline staff) and what you aligned with them.
- Composure under deadline
- Describe an exam or audit deadline you met and the volume of work involved.
- Integrity
- Describe a situation where you flagged an issue despite pressure to close a case quickly.
- Training ability
- Count the staff you trained on a procedure and what changed in their reporting afterward.
Compliance Analyst resume bullet examples: weak vs strong
The same work, written two ways. The strong version names the tool, the scope and a result; the numbers are examples, yours must be real.
Weak: Reviewed compliance alerts.
Strong: Reviewed 150 AML alerts monthly in Actimize, filing 9 SARs that led to 2 account closures flagged by the risk committee.
Names the tool, the volume and the outcome of the review.
Weak: Responsible for KYC reviews.
Strong: Ran KYC refresh reviews on 70 high-risk accounts a quarter, catching 6 with expired identification before the regulator's sample pull.
Shows the review caught something before an audit, not just completed a task.
Weak: Helped with audits.
Strong: Prepared the evidence package for a 2023 state exam covering 200 files, answering all 14 examiner follow-ups within the 5-day deadline.
Turns audit support into a measurable, timely contribution.
Weak: Knowledge of AML regulations.
Strong: Applied BSA/AML rules to flag a structuring pattern across 4 linked accounts, resulting in a SAR filing and account exit.
Converts a knowledge claim into a specific case with a result.
Weak: Updated policies.
Strong: Rewrote the sanctions screening policy after a 2022 OFAC list update, reducing false-positive escalations by 30%.
Shows the policy change had a measurable effect on the team's work.
Weak: Trained staff on compliance procedures.
Strong: Trained 18 frontline staff on red flags for elder financial exploitation, which led to 5 reports in the following quarter.
Training is measured by what staff did differently afterward.

Compliance Analyst resume summary examples
Two or three lines on what you do and your strongest proof. Start from the one closest to your level and use your own facts.

Common compliance analyst resume mistakes
Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.
Vague regulatory knowledge
“Knowledge of AML regulations” tells a recruiter nothing about depth. Name the regulation and a case where you applied it.
Counting cases closed instead of findings
“Closed 500 cases” could mean anything. Say how many led to a SAR, an account action or a policy change.
No mention of the regulatory body or exam type
State vs. federal exams, and OCC vs. internal audit, call for different experience. Name the specific type you supported.
Omitting the certification status
If you're studying for CAMS or another certification, say so. It signals commitment even before you pass the exam.
Writing case details that breach confidentiality
Describe the pattern and outcome in general terms rather than naming a real customer or account, even on a resume.
ATS tips for a compliance analyst resume
Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.
- Name the regulation by its common acronym (AML, KYC, BSA, OFAC, GDPR) since compliance ads often screen for it exactly.
- Show the tool you used to review cases (Actimize, SAS, NICE) and the volume you handled, not just that you "performed reviews."
- Describe at least one finding that led to a SAR, a policy change or an account action, not only that alerts were closed.
- Mention exam or audit experience by name (state exam, OCC, internal audit) and what you were responsible for in it.
- If you hold CAMS or a similar certification, put it near the top; many compliance ads treat it as a near-requirement.

Compliance Analyst resume FAQ
What certifications matter most for a compliance analyst resume?
CAMS is the most recognized for AML-focused roles. CRCM fits regulatory compliance management roles, and CFE helps for fraud-leaning positions. List whichever you hold near the top of the resume.
How do I show compliance experience with no AML background?
Count related work: audit support, policy documentation, customer due diligence or even paralegal case review. Frame it around the regulation or control you applied, not just the job title.
Should a compliance analyst resume mention specific case outcomes?
Yes, where you can without breaching confidentiality. Describe the pattern and the result in general terms, such as a SAR filed or an account closed, rather than naming the customer.
