Intern Resume Example (2026)
By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page
Internship postings don't expect a long work history. What they're checking for is whether you can turn a project, a class or a part-time job into a specific, honest accomplishment instead of a list of course names. An intern resume should read like you already know how to describe your work, even if the work so far has been small.
The example below is a rising junior majoring in business with one summer internship and two class projects. Notice how each bullet names the task, the tool and a real number or outcome, instead of just listing what the internship program covered.

How to write an intern resume
Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.
Header: name, target title and links
Use "Intern" or the specific role title ("Marketing Intern," "Finance Intern") depending on what you're applying for, and list your expected graduation date clearly near your name or education. Recruiters scan for class year first.
Summary: what you do and your best proof
Name your major, graduation date, and the type of internship you want, then one concrete accomplishment from a project, internship or activity. Avoid lines like "eager to learn"; every student applicant says that.
Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet
Write class projects and part-time jobs with the same structure as work bullets: task, tool, result. A bullet that just names a course teaches a recruiter nothing about what you actually did in it.
Skills: grouped, in the ad's words
Group tools you've used in coursework or internships separately from software you've only seen demoed; list only what you can speak to in an interview. Match the exact tool names from the job ad when you've genuinely used them.
Education and certifications
Put education above experience if you have no internship yet, below it once you have one or two. List your expected graduation date, relevant coursework if space allows, and GPA if it's 3.3 or higher.
Skills to put on an intern resume
Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.
Hard skills
- Excel
- Name a specific function or feature (pivot tables, VBA, XLOOKUP) and the project or report you used it for.
- Financial modeling
- State the type of model you built (3-statement, DCF) and who used it or what decision it supported.
- SQL (coursework or self-taught)
- Mention the dataset size or course project where you used it, even if it wasn't a job.
- PowerPoint / presentations
- Give the audience size and the topic of a presentation you delivered.
- Canva / design tools
- Count the materials you designed and where they were used (campaign, event, social account).
- Python / basic coding
- Name the course or project where you applied it and what it analyzed or automated.
- Google Analytics
- Tie it to a specific campaign or website metric you tracked in a project.
- Survey design and analysis
- Give the respondent count and one finding the survey produced.
- Social media management
- State the platform, posting frequency and a follower or engagement change.
- Research and citation
- Name a research project and the number of sources or data points reviewed.
- Bloomberg Terminal / financial databases
- Mention the certificate or course where you learned it and what you looked up with it.
- CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot)
- If used in a class simulation or internship, mention the task you completed in it.
Soft skills
- Teamwork
- Name the group size and your specific role in a class project or club activity.
- Time management
- State the hours a week you balanced across classes, jobs and activities.
- Communication
- Describe a presentation or report you delivered and to whom.
- Adaptability
- Describe a task you picked up outside your assigned role during an internship.
- Leadership
- Count the people you led in a club, project or part-time job and one result.
- Problem-solving
- Describe one specific problem you noticed and the fix you proposed or built.
- Attention to detail
- Mention an error you caught in data, a report or a process before it caused a problem.
Intern resume bullet examples: weak vs strong
The same work, written two ways. The strong version names the tool, the scope and a result; the numbers are examples, yours must be real.
Weak: Helped with marketing tasks.
Strong: Drafted 12 social media captions and 2 email newsletters; one newsletter earned a click rate 9% above the store's usual average.
Names the deliverable, the count and a measured result.
Weak: Did data analysis for the team.
Strong: Analyzed 400 customer survey responses in Excel, ranked the top 3 reasons shoppers chose competitors, and presented the ranking to the marketing director.
Gives the data size, the tool, the finding and who it was presented to.
Weak: Participated in a class group project.
Strong: Led a 4-person team project proposing a loyalty program for a campus café, which the café owner adopted the following semester.
Shows leadership and a real-world outcome, not just a grade.
Weak: Worked part-time during school.
Strong: Balanced 15 hours a week as a Resident Assistant supporting 45 residents while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
Quantifies the workload and ties it to a concrete result.
Weak: Learned Excel in class.
Strong: Built a pivot-table dashboard in Excel for a class project analyzing 2 years of city park usage data, presented to 3 local parks department staff.
Turns a classroom skill into a project with a real audience.
Weak: Good communication skills.
Strong: Presented survey findings to the marketing director and 2 senior associates, answering follow-up questions on methodology.
Replaces a trait claim with a specific presentation and audience.

Intern resume summary examples
Two or three lines on what you do and your strongest proof. Start from the one closest to your level and use your own facts.
Sophomore at the University of Georgia majoring in Marketing, seeking a first internship. Completed a semester-long class project analyzing a local nonprofit's social media engagement and volunteers 5 hours a week running a campus club's Instagram account.
Junior at Arizona State University majoring in Business Administration, seeking a summer internship in marketing or operations. Completed a 10-week internship analyzing customer survey data for a local retailer, with one campaign draft outperforming the store's average click rate by 9%.
Senior at the University of Michigan majoring in Finance, seeking a full-time analyst role after two internships: one in corporate finance building a 3-statement model, and one in investment research covering a 5-stock sector portfolio.
Common intern resume mistakes
Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.
Listing course names instead of what you did in them
Replace "Completed Marketing 301" with the project you built in that course and its outcome, written as a normal bullet.
Writing a resume longer than one page
Cut to the most recent and most relevant 2-3 years of activities; a student resume over one page usually signals padding, not more experience.
No numbers anywhere on the resume
Even class projects have numbers: survey respondents, budget size, dataset rows, attendance. Add one to every bullet.
Treating part-time jobs as unrelated to the internship
A retail or food service job still shows reliability, customer service and teamwork; frame the bullets around skills the internship ad asks for.
Skipping the skills section because "I haven't worked yet"
List software and tools from coursework, personal projects or clubs; most internship ATS systems filter on keywords in this section.
ATS tips for an intern resume
Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.
- List your expected graduation date and relevant coursework if you have no internship yet; put education above experience.
- Turn class projects into real bullets with the task, the tool and the outcome, the same way you'd describe a job.
- Count part-time jobs, campus leadership and volunteer roles as experience if they show responsibility or a measurable result.
- Name the specific software from the job ad (Excel, SQL, Canva, Salesforce) rather than writing "familiar with various tools."
- Keep the resume to one page; internship recruiters expect it and a longer resume at this stage usually means padding.
For the format itself, run the free ATS resume checklist.

Intern resume FAQ
What do I put on an intern resume if I have no work experience?
Lead with education, then turn class projects, volunteer work, campus clubs or part-time jobs into bullets with a task, a tool and an outcome, the same structure you'd use for a job.
Should I include my GPA on an intern resume?
Include it if it's 3.3 or higher, or if the employer's application specifically asks for it. Otherwise it's optional and skipping it isn't a red flag.
How long should an intern resume be?
One page. Recruiters reviewing hundreds of student applications expect it, and a longer resume at this career stage usually signals padding rather than more experience.
Should I list high school activities on a college intern resume?
Generally no, once you have a semester or two of college activities or any internship. Replace older high school entries as soon as you have current material.
How we built this page
The FindAJobAI team wrote the three example resumes, the bullets, the skills and the advice for intern roles. The people, employers and numbers in the examples are invented; the structure, the tools and the way each bullet is built are the parts to copy.
Once we track enough live intern job ads, this page also shows the skills they ask for most, counted the same way as our in-demand skills report.
