Cloud Engineer Resume Example (2026)

By FindAJobAI team Updated How we built this page

Cloud and platform engineers are judged on what other teams can do because of their work: environments created in hours, migrations without downtime, costs under control. A cloud engineer resume should name the provider and its services, and measure each project in workloads, time and money.

The example below is a cloud engineer with seven years who moved from Windows and VMware administration to building Azure platforms. It's a common path, and the bullets show how sysadmin experience carries into cloud work.

How to write a cloud engineer resume

Five steps, in the order a recruiter reads the page. The format around them stays plain for every job: one column, standard headings, newest role first.

  1. Header: name, target title and links

Use Cloud Engineer or the ad's variant (Azure Engineer, AWS Cloud Engineer, Cloud Platform Engineer), and keep certifications off the title line. GitHub helps if it holds infrastructure code.

  2. Summary: what you do and your best proof

Name your main provider first, then the IaC tool, then the scale (subscriptions or accounts, workloads, users) and one result, such as a finished migration or a cost cut.

  3. Experience: newest first, a result in every bullet

Give each project its size and outcome: workloads moved, downtime, time to provision, money saved. Use the provider's own service names in bullets, because recruiters search for them.

  4. Skills: grouped, in the ad's words

Separate providers, IaC, containers, networking, identity and scripting. If you know both AWS and Azure, list the one in the ad first.

  5. Education and certifications

List your degree, then certifications in their own section with exam codes and years. Many cloud engineers come from system administration, and that background deserves a short line rather than a hiding place.

Skills to put on a cloud engineer resume

Hard skills are the tools and methods of the job; soft skills are how you work with people. Each comes with one way to prove it, because a skill named only in a list counts for little. Add the ones you really have.

Hard skills

AWS
Name the services you built with (VPC, IAM, EKS, RDS) and how many accounts you ran.
Microsoft Azure
Name the services (VNets, AKS, Entra ID, Azure Policy) and the subscriptions you managed.
Google Cloud
List it only with real projects behind it, naming the services.
Terraform
Give the number of resources or modules under management and how changes get reviewed.
Bicep or CloudFormation
Mention templates you wrote in the provider's own tool, and what they deploy.
Cloud networking
Describe a network you designed: hub-and-spoke, Transit Gateway or private endpoints.
Identity and access
Show least-privilege roles, SSO or policy work and its effect on audits.
Cloud migration
Size each move by workloads, data, downtime and timeline.
Managed Kubernetes
Mention the AKS, EKS or GKE clusters you ran and the workloads on them.
Cost management
Give savings per month or year and the methods behind them.
Cloud monitoring
Name Azure Monitor, CloudWatch or Datadog and an issue you caught early.
PowerShell or Python
Show automation you wrote and the time it saved.

Soft skills

Planning
Describe a migration or rollout plan you wrote and how closely it held.
Business communication
Mention the application owners you coordinated with during cutovers.
Documentation
Point to architecture diagrams or runbooks that teams use.
Risk awareness
Show a rollback plan or guardrail that prevented an outage.
Teaching
Count the teams you onboarded to the cloud platform.
Vendor management
Mention negotiations with a cloud provider or partner and what they saved.

Cloud Engineer resume bullet examples: weak vs strong

The same work, written two ways. The strong version names the tool, the scope and a result; the numbers are examples, yours must be real.

  1. Weak: Managed cloud infrastructure.

Strong: Managed 30 Azure subscriptions and 600 resources through Terraform, with every change reviewed in a pull request and no manual edits in production.

Scale plus the control you put around change.

  2. Weak: Assisted with cloud migration.

Strong: Planned and ran the move of a 2 TB SQL Server database to Azure SQL with 15 minutes of downtime, using log shipping and a tested rollback plan.

Your part, the size and how you controlled the risk.

  3. Weak: Built a platform for developers.

Strong: Built golden-path templates for web APIs on AKS, with logging, alerts and CI included, now used by 40 of the company's 55 services.

    Platform work measured by adoption.

  4. Weak: Optimized cloud costs.

Strong: Put dev and test environments on auto-shutdown schedules and steady workloads on reserved instances, saving $9,500 a month.

Says what you did and what it saved.

  5. Weak: Worked on networking.

Strong: Designed a hub-and-spoke network with private endpoints and Azure Firewall, closing public access to 25 databases.

Networking skill tied to a security outcome.

  6. Weak: Wrote automation scripts.

Strong: Wrote Python Azure Functions that tag untagged resources and alert their owners, raising cost-allocation coverage from 55% to 97%.

Automation with a clear before and after.

Common cloud engineer resume mistakes

Each one is easy to make and quick to fix before you apply.

  1. Writing “cloud” without a provider

Cloud ads are written for AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. Name yours in the summary and in the bullets.

  2. Certifications with no hands-on proof

A certificate shows you studied; a bullet shows you built. Pair each certification with work on that platform.

  3. Migrations without numbers

“Moved apps to the cloud” says little. Give workloads, data volume, downtime and how long it took.

  4. Forgetting cost

Finance teams watch cloud spend closely. One bullet on savings and how you found them is worth a lot.

  5. Hiding the sysadmin years

Server, network and identity work transfers directly. Keep those roles, with the parts that matter for a cloud job.

ATS tips for a cloud engineer resume

Applicant tracking systems turn your file into text that recruiters search, mostly for the skills and titles in the ad. They rarely reject a resume on their own; one that parses badly or misses the ad's words just doesn't come up.

  • Name the cloud first and its services by their real names (AKS, EKS, Entra ID, IAM); cloud ads are usually written for one provider.
  • Say which infrastructure-as-code tool you used (Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation, Pulumi); recruiters search for the specific one.
  • If you built a platform for other engineers, use the words platform engineering, golden paths or self-service, and give adoption numbers.
  • Write certifications with exam codes (AZ-104, SAA-C03) as well as names; both forms get searched.
  • Size migrations by workloads, data volume, downtime and timeline.

Cloud Engineer resume FAQ

Is a cloud engineer resume different from a DevOps resume?

There's overlap, but a cloud engineer resume puts more weight on architecture, networking, identity, migrations and cost, while a DevOps resume leans on CI/CD and delivery speed. Match the emphasis to the ad.

Which cloud certification should I list first?

The one for the cloud the job uses. An Azure ad should see your Azure certification first, with the others below it and their years.

How do I move into cloud engineering from system administration?

Show the cloud work you've already done, even small: an environment you built, scripts you wrote, a migration you supported. Pair it with a certification, and keep sysadmin bullets that show networking, identity and automation.
